The Answer

I was just reading a really rather depressing news item in the Times about a UN report “Global Environment Outlook: environment for development” in which 400 scientist apparently say we are all doomed. (Times)

In the comments thread someone called “Brian, London” sets out the solution. It is so mind-blowingly obvious I really cannot think why one of those 400 scientists didn’t come up with it.

“The answer is simple, all we need to do is find/create/modify a suitable tree to generate electricity in a collectable form. We can then plant mile,on square mile of trees that renew the environment whilst supplying electrical energy locally.”

Gotta hand it to him - an electricity tree would be a lot more useful than a spaghetti tree. What a wingnut.

    How about this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_tree - doesn’t get round the burning hydrocarbon problem, but with enough of them planted it might use up the co2 produced

I have added a picture of a tree with potential, this is a Malus Domestica Duracellensis.

The thing is it will take a few more generations of hybridisation to get it producing AC.
