These Read it yourself books seem to be just about the right level. The inane guesses without actually looking at the letters in the word are still rather irritating though

Jax - I’m with you on the inane guessing while gazing out of the window, at the ceiling, blank (not even switched on) TV - anywhere but the page in fact! Irritating as hell. Especially when it’s words he read happily the page before!!
Yep, I can empathise having gone through it (and still going through it some days!) with Joseph. Random guessing really irritates me…
