2 down

1 to go.

Made it with time to spare today, so obviously learnt from yesterday about how much time I need to leave to navigate a strange town to find a parking place!

Cautiously optimistic about the interview - I wasn’t at the end of it, as I felt it had been quite difficult, but a chat with the agency, and further feedback this evening is that it went well, but I won’t know til next week. So I do need to go to the presentation day tomorrow in Sheffield, which is just the first of a two step process. Bother. I was hoping I wouldn’t need to.

In other news, Tim coped admirably well with the children today - he’s done educational stuff with them (printing!) *and* excavated the table as well! He’s now relaxing in a warm bath, as it has been hard on his back. When I say coped, I am referring to his physical difficulties with looking after the children - he’s always been very good with them, that isn’t an issue at all ;)

And I met Gill, which was really lovely. In fact so lovely that I stayed nearly three times as long as I’d anticipated, time just flew while we were chatting. And it was peaceful. :)

Hi Jax, what a great conversation! Was good to meet you as well. We were lucky it was so peaceful. It’s not usually!

The only thing that is specifically difficult is changing Small. I need to work out the mechanics of the process so that I don’t strain my back leaning, twisting, lifting, pulling and shoving. Conquer that and it will just leave me with the gag reflex to worry about…

ah well, if you end up being parent in charge more often, Tim, you’ll just have to potty train him …

I find when my back is bad I do best by putting the change mat on the settee and sitting as square on as I can. I did like having the change unit so DS1 was high enough but that got put by the wayside when it meant leaving a child unattended downstairs! Also using the dining room table and have the mat right near the edge so they daren’t move in case they fall off. Cruel but effective! Obviously my back isn’t as bad as yours but I HTH :-)

Sally, I had been having just that thought, about raising the child to a proper working height, great minds :-)

We have one of those airer things over our bath, I think I might try pegging him to that. It would also mean I could hose him down with the shower attachment….

I reckon I could also do with one of these.

Well done, Jax, and Tim, and good luck for tomorrow. We both have chronic bad backs, too, and I was offered an operation 10 years ago, but didnt want to risk it, and thankfully discovered a really good Chiropractor in Halifax, who has unfortunately returned to Australia, although the practise is still there. I hardly need to go any more, and am pretty much fine most of the time- it must have sorted me out. But IKWYM about changing nappies. I have a changing table downstairs, but have hardly used it for this baby, well, once they can move I find it a bit dangerous, anyway- he always crawls off halfway through, but now he can stand it makes it easier- he usually ends up in the bath, anyway. Lol at that suit- i sometimes think I have to wear something like that all the time as my ‘work clothes’, as always getting dribbled on, mucky handprints and worse.

ROFL at the suit! A peg is much easier to get in and out of! Dunno about the bath, I hate bending over the bath myself as it seems just at the wrong height for either standing or kneeling but any height is better than the floor unless (top tip coming up) they are really fighting and (having removed shoes) you can use your feet to restrain their shoulders whilst changing their lower half. Knackers my back but sometimes its the only way!

I dont seem to find bathing them hurts my back any more, but I never bend over it, I usually sit in the corner and let them get on with it, and lift them in and out quite quickly and carefully. But I have a low stool, for small ones to stand on, which is handy for sitting on if i want to be near them in the bath. DP usually gets in, but I get boob attack if I do this, and, anyway, poo?…
