BBC NEWS | Have Your Say | Are children made to learn too young?

Particularly enjoyed the comment by Doug - why do all children *need* to be able to read and write by age 7? Very odd thing to say if you ask me.

    Hmm, what with that, the teacher diary on Mudpud list and this I’m most definitely confident in our decision to HE. And that link I posted has all my fears about putting Marcus into reception this September. :o(

    Arghhh, Joseph better get a move on then because he can’t read or write yet and he will be 7 in December….

    I didn’t read it quite as he thought they should be reading/writing by 7, more that it’s pretty crap that schools have had them for two years by then, and still haven’t managed to teach them how to ……
