Thought I ought to actually blog.
It was our dentist outing in the morning – I’d expected to have another child, but turned out I’m having her today (confused yet? You will be) so I did take Small with me. Good that I did – if Big gets in the chair for the dentist, he wants to too! The dentist was very impressed. He wouldn’t actually open his mouth, but he let her lift his lips to look at his top teeth, so that seems like a very good start to me.
Big was very well behaved as well, and her teeth are fine. Mine just needed a bit of a scrape (ouch, ouch, ouch….) and a clean, so all in all, not nearly as bad as it could have been. Big asked if she could choose a treat for being good, and I agreed, foolish!
Back home, and Big’s good behaviour evaporated. Took her over an hour to do two pages of Exeter maths 🙁 Aargh…. so lots more tv ed, as if we’re in that kind of mood, I’m just not taking on the reading agony.
Went shopping after lunch and took Tim’s car. Turns out to be just as well that I did, as when I opened the boot to put the shopping in, I discovered it was wet, and so were a lot of the contents. Including my Ergo! Wahh….dunno whether you are supposed to wash them, but I really didn’t have a lot of choice. Hoping it looks OK when it dries.
Home, and Tim took over childcare while I retired upstairs to do some techy geeky stuff that he wants doing. I’ll rant about that sort of thing later. Suffice it to say that I worked on it on and off all afternoon and evening, and then managed to hit the wrong button when I was shutting down last night, and lost a large proportion of it. Actually, maybe it wasn’t such a small camel day, that is a fairly heavy straw after all.
Yet another night of sleeping with a limpet – really beginning to get to me now. And we’d just got up – I was dealing with a really stinky horrid nappy – when Mimi arrived to spend the day.
Seems to be going reasonably well so far, touch wood.

Jax – what is your Ergo? Ours is our laptop.
Do you sit Big down to do her maths? An hour seems like a very long time to work on one thing. Our L is nearly five and though he might draw for an hour (his great love) I can’t imagine him sitting at something workbook like for that long. Come to that our P wouldn’t work that long on book maths either and she is nearly 8 and loves maths!
Glad your dentist trip went well.
Ergo is a soft carrier, very good.
No, I don’t insist Big sits down for an hour. What we did was agree what she was going to do, and then it took an hour by the time she’d wandered off and back and been sent to calm down and so on.
Having said that, there was one day at Melrose when she must have sat for well over an hour doing maths from these books, she did 6 pages in one sitting I think – she loves it generally. Does make it terribly difficult to know what is reasonable to ask of her.
Jax’s Ergo (and mine – used it the other day for the first time in ages and had forgotten how great it is! And got stopped by a pair of women who asked what it was and where was it from) is this baby carrier.
Actually, if you sit back and squint a little, that picture on the left could be me and Lulah, couldn’t it? 🙂
So Jax, you up for writing us some book-scanning software? You could use it yourself as well as selling it to me and Layla and Janathan and … well, the rest of the blogring 😉
And talking of books, do you have a copy of “Harriet the Spy” on your For Sale shelves? Mine has completely died and I decided P *needs* to read it!
rofl Alison! Have you been hiring Lulah out? Definitely looks like her, something wrong with the hair colour for it to be you.
Book scanning software – what do you have in mind? I’m in the process of designing a bookshop, suppose it could be adapted 😉
Harriet the spy, not sure. Will have a look.
Jax, Mimi had a great day. Dino chucked again after we had tea so look out in case it’s a bug – sorry.
Thanks a million for today you’re a star. But no, I’m not swapping!
Glad your Ergo is not a laptop! Afraid we are behind the times with carriers these days. Sounds a better bet for washing than a computer anyway…
