I think I forgot to mention last week that we made it to the opticians and Big has near perfect vision with a hint of long sightedness while Small is slightly more long sighted but not enough to do anything about it as he isn’t reporting any problems. So that was good. Oh, and soa finally started getting her thumb into her mouth with some degree of consistency, which is extremely endearing 🙂
So to this week. Monday I ran out in the morning for fruit and errands with soa. Really love the wrap and trolley combination, much easier to ma than a buggy. Then in the afternoon Small, soa and I went two towns over for a playdate with a lad from home ed group that he’s hit it off with, and while we were out I coordinated Big going to a funplay session at the swimming pool with a friend from swimming/ Brownies. We’re hoping that that is going to be a regular fixture, which Big is pretty thrilled about.
Dashed back just in time for Beavers where Small didn’t get his Animal Lovers badge due to a breakdown in communication somewhere along the way. Small, who had been so tired he’d slept in the car on the way back from his friends (can’t remember the last time he did that on a normal day, though it’s fairly standard after a weekend away) was understandably upset. But Squirrel rang the next morning to sort it out – looks like the handout might have been the week we were at cp and I didn’t realise he was supposed to do a write up as well as pics and a talk. We can sort it for next week 🙂
Ooh, and I received my gift of jewels. A lovely parcel and card, with a china tea cup, some herbal tea and a book. Thank you so much to Se’lah for organising the exchange and to Robin for my wonderful parcel. I might come back when I’ve more time with pics 🙂
Swimming on Tuesday always seems to eat the whole day, especially as we walked down for the first time since soa was born. Which meant she saw the sea for the first time. It seemed to be interesting. 🙂 I was quite pleased to discover that I am still reasonably fit – even carrying the baby, dragging my trolley and herding the other children we made it down in under 25 minutes. And that included standing and staring at the sea 😀
Small had a reasonable lesson and one of the other mums took him with her son into the shower as I was feeding soa at the time. When I caught up with them I ended up standing outside the boys shower for ages, which meant I got time to chat with the other mums, and make another connection. Turns out one of them has a son who is joining Small’s Beaver group in a couple of months’ time. She also told me about a baby stuff exchange that happens at one of the churches on a Wednesday morning, so I’ll need to get a bit more organised and see if we can make it there to offload some stuff before music one week.
And that brings us nicely round to Wednesday, which this week was music, picnic lunch and bowls. A new family turned up, but the children, recently pulled out of school were too nervous and shy to stop, which was a little sad. We did manage to chat with the mother a little and we hope to see her again soon. Meantime our kids enjoyed themselves bowling, completely independently, looking after each other and the youngest bowler (who I think is around 3 or 4?) leaving the mothers and babes in arms to sit and drink tea/ coffee and try to chat, though it’s ever so loud in there.
Brownies wasn’t on last night, so the kids had chance to watch Superman Returns which seems to go down pretty well. I enjoyed it rather better than some of our recent lovefilm picks tbh. Right now they are watching Eragon
which really has the most extraordinary cast. Hope it’s better than the book
. I know that Christopher Paolini was home schooled and wrote them as a teenager and I think what he did was incredible, but could have benefited from a slightly sterner editor 😉
And now I have yet another nappy to change. So I’d better get on with that then.
