There are some journalists left.

Forget about the issue of home education. That is just a smokescreen designed to cover another calamitous failure by a social services department already under government special measures because its protection of vulnerable children is deemed inadequate.

For once this is not a quote from a home educating blogger, this is a mainstream journalist. He says Duo must resign after Khyra Ishaq death and seems to have got the gist of the matter.

So, how come the rest of the media is falling for the spin? Even today I listened to yet another BBC dj perpetuating the misunderstandings. The home ed bit is about 14 minutes in and features Ali from where the days go doing her best to straighten out the latest batch of rent-an-idiot experts. Where do they get these ppl? They know nothing and just spout the party line – the labour party line at that. The last year or so has been a real eye opener to me – I thought the bbc ran a news service and I’ve gradually had to admit that they do nothing of the sort. I didn’t even get an acknowledgment of my most recent complaint (I don’t know whether anyone else did?), and the way they trot out the ridiculously biased interviewees time after time is beyond cringeworthy.

But to end on a high note, at least there are a few ppl out there who get it. Thank you to Paul Dale – I’m aware that it wasn’t your main purpose to speak for home educators, but you have done in passing and we are grateful for you making your points. And terrifying as it may seem, it looks likely that along with many of my home educating friends, I may end up having to vote Tory at the next election, so that ppl like Graham Stuart and Douglas Carswell will be returned to government and we can put the csfbill to bed once and for all.

  1. Yes, I can’t believe it looks like I will be voting Conservative. And it is true that it is only when the media are dealing with something close to your heart that you realise how ill informed and sensationalist they are. As for the government… It’s been a real eye opener for me.

  2. Sometimes the presenter is posing the questions so that the interviewee can answer them on-air. I didn’t think he was that bad, certainly not compared to some BBC presenters… You have to admit that most of the people listening will be thinking along those lines and it’s his job to get their questions answered so they’ll keep listening. It’s not his fault that the answers go in one ear and out the other in most cases.
I was wondering where they dug up the psychologist, although he did seem to be open-minded as his concerns were addressed.

  3. A very interesting article, thanks for the link. I’ve been shocked (although I really shouldn’t be anymore these days) by how far officials will go to absolve themselves of any responsibility. This latest distraction technique in the Khyra Ishaq case, however, is by far the most offensive!

  4. if you don’t get a response to your complaint you can go to the Trust can’t you?
