Wednesday questing.

Can’t remember the morning. That might have been the day that I tried out a couple of PMC questions on the children, and really regretted it. Honestly, a couple of reasonably straightforward slightly puzzly questions and they both went into complete meltdown, you’d think that I’d asked them the answer to life the universe and everything!

I remember the afternoon though. I dragged the children down to the library to join the Summer Reading scheme, which this year is QuestSeekers. The librarian wasn’t going to give them the proper pack as apparently they gave out loads on first visit last year, and then lots of children were never seen again, but when I pointed out that this was our fourth (?I think) year of doing it, she handed it over without quibbling. Not entirely sure what Small has done with his card mind! The signing up process was rather drawn out, involved decorating a little sticker to put up on the wall to show how far on they are, and asking them about a story that they’d read or listened to recently, so they both got their first sticker for the poster chart for that – not sure whether they need to fill that in for their first book now, she wasn’t very clear.

And then home, via the cinema where we discovered that Thursday was the last day for showing Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, so unless we wanted to have to go to the big cinema in the next town, that was our Thursday sorted out.

They both did their questseeker wordsearch, and I read them our next Michael Morpurgo – Kaspar, Prince of cats.. It’s very beautifully illustrated by Michael Foreman as well. As is usual with these books though, probably not for the faint of heart! For all that they are children’s books, he doesn’t hesitate to wipe out characters, or have dire things happen 😉

  1. Glad things improved in the afternoon. I don’t think much of your library though. Makes my local one seem like utopia in comparison.

  2. Gosh I hate the summer library things, bits of paper all over the place and it all seems so pointless! Joe went and picked up three lots, very kindly thinking of his sisters for once, but they’ve gone in my usual filing tray for such things already I’m afraid!
