Swimming and midwife.

Our swimming lessons are now in the morning, the idea being that during the holidays you get them over with, and also the pool is then open for public swimming in the afternoon. Must actually take the children swimming at some point given that they would get in free with their swimming lesson swipe cards!

Really wasn’t sure whether Big was up to the lesson – she certainly seemed a lot better than she had been, and it seemed unlikely that it was sflu, but still agonised over it. In the end decided that she would walk down with us, and we’d decide once we were there if she felt up to it.

Small was really happy to have his lesson again, he is absolutely loving it. Different teacher again – think that makes 3 in four lessons? Not particularly good for continuity, but as most of what they are doing appears to be about confidence in water rather than particular skills it doesn’t really make much difference at this stage.

Big’s lesson, which she did feel up to, was down to three children, so I’m assuming it was good. I can only assume as I saw about 3 minutes of it – by the time Small was processed through there wasn’t much time left, and he wanted to find out about the softplay, so we did that too, and then there wasn’t even enough time for him to finish his drink so he had to wait in the changing room while I went on to the side to collect Big.

Strolled back up home and that was a good way to spend a morning, except for the fact that half way home, Small started to complain of a sore throat and a hurty tummy! So am now guessing that Big did have a virus of some kind, she shared it with him, but they both got over it very quickly. I was very tired for a couple of days and crashed out in the evening, but other than that, no symptoms.

Midwife visit in the afternoon, and I met midwife number 3 of the team of 4. She seemed a little put out that my midwife hadn’t given me the plan of care for healthy women, so I now have that, which is helpful actually, as it shows their expectations for appts and so on. Next one is at 28 weeks and involves blood tests, oh goody, but as I’ve also a growth scan booked for that week, she gave me the blood test form and suggested I have them done at the hospital. Tempting, as the ppl who take blood there are extremely practised at it. She also told me the pandemic pregnancy plans, which are to keep as many women as possible at home – as I was veering towards home birth anyway that wasn’t so much of a shock to me, but I can imagine there are going to be a few unhappy women about 🙁

And that is as much as I can remember of Tuesday. Fairly sure that there will have been computering and tv watching, with maybe a bit of reading interspersed around it.

  1. Giggle. I bet it would have to be a serious pandemic indeed before they’d suggest home birth to me!!!!
This “serious threat to humanity pandemic” is forcing our poor little administrative system right out of its comfort zone.
Had you not decided definitely on home birth then?

  2. the only drawback to the home birth idea here is the lack of rooms, it’s quite a small house given that I won’t be using the loft room as a bedroom by that point. And there’s no bath in the bathroom – I remember that first bath after birth very fondly 🙂
So yes, I do want a home birth, but if we could have a quick temporary extension before then, that would make it ideal…

  3. I see. Hm, Timmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I’m sure you can manage a homebirth even in a tiddly house!

  5. “pandemic pregnancy” – scarey thought!

  6. LOL – re the pandemic preganancy Tim (I think maybe that’s what happened to me!!). And yes – you can have a homebirth in a tiddly house…I’ve done it many times 😉 Kiddos 1,2&3 were all born in a little 2 up 2 down victorian terrace house. No.4 on the bathroom floor of slightly bigger house. No.5&6 in a crowded bedroom and no.7 – well hospital rooms are not that big either are they..! 😀
