The shape of a day

I got up early (ish) and ran 2.5 miles. Not a particularly good pace, took 27 minutes. I plan for a short run tomorrow, then rest on Sat before the Santa Run on Sunday. Yes, that’s a sponsorship link. Yes, that’s a hint 😉

I’m quite pleased with the running now. I’d be even more pleased if I could keep the pace around 10 min/ miles but given I couldn’t run 0.4 of a mile when I started, I think any continuous pace is doing pretty well.

Then the morning got away from me, I’m not quite sure how. Small forgot to have breakfast, then there weren’t any bowls (note to self, wash up before you fall over on a night). The baby had been up reasonably early, so she was needy and grabby, and I just couldn’t focus on anything. The kids pottered about and did some mathletics, and then Small got on with Scratch and lots of paint.net. Big did some handwriting in a cursive handwriting book I won on twitter from parentsintouch and at some point Auntie S stopped by to steal greenery from the conifers (running joke – she’s a florist and comes by to denude the garden at regular intervals) and had a very quick coffee too.

Comedy moment was provided when the doorbell rang and it wasn’t the WomWorldNokia phone I was expecting, instead being the Three HTC phone that I didn’t think would get here today. Then the DHL guy passed the Royal Mail guy on the path and the second phone arrived too. Which led to a fun half hour with Tim and I scrabbling to get our mitts on the phones and compare them. Both very beautiful tbh, a Nokia N97 and HTC Desire. I want to like the Nokia best because it’s got the Qwerty keyboard I need, but oh the HTC is so strokable…

Lunchtime included a business call for me and I got one thing done, but was still struggling to focus. Odd sensation tbh, slightly light headed and fuzzy but not quite.

And then it was afternoon, suddenly and unexpectedly, and the baby slept so I could finally shower and Big had wailing to do before rookie lifeguard as she couldn’t find her notebook and what if it was the test this week and and and …

but it wasn’t. And there isn’t one in this group of lessons, although we had been told previously there would be. And there was more argument about whether she should go to landbased training or not, because apparently it hurts. So in the end she didn’t.

At least this made for a more peaceful evening – I ran out and shopped and we made pizzas together, which always leads to a happy family meal. (More of that to come…)

And eventually it was bedtime for most of the family. Just me and the baby up now. She said mummy today. And took 5 steps (again) in the leisure centre cafe. She can drink from an apple juice carton and nod and shake her head very definitively.

There you go. A day without school. Without going out to work. Just a family, getting by however it works.
