More gaming and Brownie fun run chaos.

Children played carcassonne yet again, and finally, Small won, quite comprehensively at that. We haven’t used farmers yet in our games – I could see that just being way too complicated, but he’s finally got the hang of putting his ppl on straight away and trying to build his cities up, rather than just finishing them off immediately for quick point gains. He was very happy.

Evening was Big’s brownie fun run, held at a local high school. I’d been told drop off at 6, pick up at 8, and as I took her, realised that this was a division level activity, and not just Brownies, Rainbows and Guides as well. This did not bode well for pick up time, as there were limited parking spaces, and while a lot of ppl were arriving on foot, there were quite a few in cars as well. As I walked her in to find her leader I heard another Brown Owl getting quite annoyed with one Brownie who arrived without parents – I told you last week no dropping and running! If this finishes quickly you can go home immediately and how are we going to do that if your mum isn’t here?

Ah. Double checked with our leader, who was convinced it was a drop and pick up arrangement – explained that I’d left Small at home with Tim who was due to go out, but that I could go back and get him and wait if it would be better, but she assured me it would be fine and I went home.

Then the phone rang at 7.15 and I was really glad I hadn’t processed Small into pjs as the run was over and Tim wasn’t back yet, so I had to chuck Small in the car and dash out on the pickup.

Big had managed to gather a couple of pieces of paper with Brownie phone numbers on to organise playdates for half term week as well, so that was nice.

It appeared that the disorganisation and miscommunication was at division level rather than our group, but I still wasn’t overly impressed, and I got the impression that our leader wasn’t either. Oh well.

We play Carcassone with M, but don’t use the farmers either. We’re probably a little gentle with him, but I’m sure our ruthlessness will be allowed to show itself before too long!
We’ve also just got Ticket to Ride (great minds and all that), but not attempted that with him. I imagine he will have to be part of a team for that, seeing as he can’t read yet!
