Lovely party

Sunday afternoon was E and R’s 7th birthday party, conveniently held in a town nearby 🙂 We set off slightly late (you’re amazed aren’t you) not least as Small decided he didn’t want to come. This was mainly as it wasn’t his birthday party and I wouldn’t promise there would be goody bags, so if he wasn’t getting anything, he didn’t see why he should venture out. Wasn’t desperately happy with his reasoning, but I think in the long run the staying at home was the right decision for him, as he probably needed some quiet time.

We set off in convoy with me relying on the satnav to guide us there, which it did admirably well. Lovely to catch up with various friends, and particularly nice to meet Em’s O, who was a very obliging baby and mainly slept through a variety of cuddles. Kids all seemed to have a great time, particularly when a variety of Helens started facepainting 🙂

I got to chat with adults, which was a pleasant way of spending an afternoon, and spent ages discussing home education with a gym mum who is considering it as an alternative if her son doesn’t get into a halfway decent secondary school. I am finding the attitudes to home education somewhat more enlightened in this neck of the woods – odd.

Big and Sb thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon together, and it was difficult to drag them away, so difficult that it was after 6 when we finally left. That led to the most exciting bit of the day, a mystery tour of lesser known parts of town, in search of a petrol station. It should have been a very easy and short journey but the Points of Interest menu on the satnav didn’t agree with me as to where the nearest petrol station was, and took us all over the place – which was particularly scary as I was watching the miles left in tank countdown until it read under 10. Eek.

At this point I employed pre-satnav technology – parked and called Tim 🙂 This was far more successful and we were very soon at a petrol station and filled up with fuel again. Much less stressful driving home after that.

And that was the weekend.
