Tim started off the week by showing the children Command & Conquer Red Alert (PC). They spent most of Monday morning playing it, or sometimes sitting next to Tim while he played it.

“Who is supposed to be playing there?” I asked at one stage.

“I was” came the plaintive response from Big. Not sure who was enjoying it most!

I’m sure there is lots to be learnt from that type of game, maybe one day I’ll manage my boredom level enough to explore a game and learn it. But maybe not. Anyway, they had needed a quiet day after the hectic weekend 🙂

Also the board games that I had ordered arrived. After much consideration and debate, in the end I went for Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne, which seemed to be a particularly good choice, as it came out of the box almost immediately.

I relocated myself to a chair nearer to the children and set up to read rules and assist – they played Carcassonne first, Small’s choice, and then Ticket to Ride. He lost both narrowly and wept copiously. I tried to explain that he was only just learning the games, and that maybe he just needed to concentrate a little more, which made him cry harder. “That wasn’t in the rules!” Oh dear. I said that actually that was more of a life rule. Who says you don’t learn anything from games?

Inserted them into bed, and Tim headed off out to pick up our second visitor.
