Just ten minutes

No big resolutions here – I’m still smarting from the complete failure of this time next year two years ago. So I’m not trying for anything SMART 😉

Instead, a word. Dreams. I will dream. I will dream small, and big, and everywhere in between.

And I’ll try to regularly (won’t say daily) try to spend just ten minutes doing something creative. Writing, drawing, learning, coding, whatever takes my fancy. Probably mostly writing. I’ll share pics of this with #just10minutes on instagram probably.

Like this.

(You can follow if you like. I don’t mind.)

Last year, I did remarkably well in rankings. So I collected a whole bunch of tots badges.

No 8 in the top 20 parent blogs on twitter.

no 5 in the top 20 parent blogs on instagram.

no 7 in the top 20 parent blogs overall

And yet, somehow, I don’t feel it. I don’t feel top. I don’t feel good. I don’t feel special. I guess the numbers don’t really make that much difference after all.

Of course it makes a difference to the approaches I get, I’m sure it must. And I probably need to get a whole lot more business like about that, or at least organised. Spreadsheets ahoy.

But what feels like it might make more difference to my life, and happiness, and sense of self worth, is the little admonition to myself to remember to say yes a bit more often. Particularly to my little girl, and particularly when what she wants is messy. She’s only young once. Paint will wipe off the table. I need to build memories that can’t be wiped from her heart.

Yes, I will be doing my own reading challenge again. I don’t think I’ll be bothering with a linky – hardly anyone took me up on it last year, and it’s quite a lot of work just organising it. (If you feel overwhelmingly that I should make the effort do let me know.) My aim will be to read 52 books in the year, and I’m going to add that I want to read an extra 13 non fiction. Add in the 300 picture books I want to read to and with the little ones, and that makes 365 books to be read this year. (Yes, I know, that’s a book a day. Fancy that 😉 )

I’m starting my non fiction reads with Mindful living with Asperger’s Syndrome from JKP books. I received this a while back and read less than a chapter, but I think it could be helpful right now, so I’m going to start over. I’ll let you know how I get on. I’ve got meditation for aspies somewhere about as well, so I may add that in.

And our first picture book read of the year was Monty’s Magnificent Mane, which was a Christmas present, and a very lovely one at that.

  1. Oh my goodness, you did fabulously well in the rankings, I’d be so proud if I even made the top 500. I love all your reading goals, but I particularly love the one about saying “yes”. This is something I also need to do more of with my toddler. All the best for 2015.x

    1. Thank you 🙂

  2. I have to say that I am very grateful for art at school so that I don’t have to give in to the messy stuff so often. I’m struggling to stay in the top 250 atm and I only once got into the TOTS top 100 (maybe twice). As for 365 books – wow, I salute you. Good luck with all of it. xx
