Bits and pieces

A day of bits and pieces. I’m deepening my understanding of wordpress architecture, and working on a redesign of the back end of the Shinglestreet book review blog. Which has been kicked back into life to record our 300 picture books. So that’s two targets achieved today – a picture book read, and several batches of 10 minutes researching if not actually coding.

It’s surprising how hard it is to persuade myself that doing ten minutes here and there is worthwhile. I have dug into my rut of non achievement it seems, and I’m fond of the walls. It would be so easy to just huddle down here and not bother trying to get out. But if I look up, I can see that glimpse of light which will make it all worth the effort. I hope.

So, did I say yes today? Kind of. Smallest didn’t ask to do any crafts with me, messy or otherwise. Instead she wanted minecraft on the computer, so that was allowed, and it turns out that she can do quite a lot on it, despite the not reading that she’s insisting on. (I think there’s rather more incidental reading going on than she wants me to know about.) We did have some tears though when she managed to shut down the computer without saving the bunny. (No, I don’t know about the bunny. Are there rabbits in minecraft? What on earth does a square rabbit look like??)

I haven’t started my non fiction book of the month yet, mainly because I haven’t found it. I know it’s around here somewhere. I did get lovely book post, recorded on instagram and tumblr (of course I’ve got a tumblr. Haven’t you?). I was interested to notice a familiar title in the 31 books that Harper Collins is sharing over there, Fluent in 3 months is something that I’m really interested in. Particularly as I do feel that languages are something I’m lacking. Would love to see if I could add learning a language to my achievements this year.

And I started my first SF read of the year, Empire by John Connolly and Jennifer Ridyard. Very readable so far.

Occurs to me I should review my 101 things list sometime soon, might get to that over the weekend.
