Education abounds

We’ve cuisenaire rods out on the table and pattern blocks all over the floor (watch where you tread in bare feet round here!) Big is doing number bonds up to ten without blinking (although we haven’t called them that, we’ve called them patterns and sums 😉 ) as well as a bit of multiplication here and there. I can’t believe how quickly she realised the numbers each rod stands for (apologies if I’m breaking some unwritten rule of cuisenaire usage here lol) and she is lapping it up.

We’ve had fractions with the delivery of lunch time toast, and Small is ever so happy as he’s dragged his toybox out from under the table and is rediscovering friends he hasn’t seen since before Christmas. I’m remembering to pat and stroke the children in passing (far more manageable than full scale hugs!) *and* I’ve done a tiny bit of work in and amongst without feeling guilty about it. Oh, and I’ve ordered the Horrible Science magazine, so Big is very happy about that too.

Apart from the fact two of the three of us are still in pjs, and the place is an absolute tip, it’s a haven of domestic bliss here today. 🙂

  1. I’m more impressed that you managed to read my illiterate nonsense. What is WRONG with my typing just now. Sounds like a good day is being had by all though 🙂

  2. overwhelmed by the sight of your knees? 😉

  3. Nowt wrong with pj’s if you’re not going anywhere. All sounds very educational and harmonious

  4. Sounds like paradise to me :o)

  5. oh well done 🙂 Wonder how much more harmonious my house would have been if I’d skipped getting everyone dressed, but we do have to go out later. I have a cuisenaire book and rods I must bring to the bring & buy, can’t stand the things myself, give me the base 10 stuff any day!

  6. ours have been out this morning too although I am sure there was little or no educational or mathematical value in the random floor scattering they were used for 🙂

  7. and well done on the patting 😉

  8. Sounds all very pleasant 🙂
Hairbrushing and after-bath-drying times might be opportunities for sneaking in a bit more touching and the odd kiss 😉
