We left CP and headed for the edge of the country, with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Stephen Fry of course, keeping us company. We stopped briefly at a Tescos for lunch – unimpressive, but I bet it was a bit cheaper than Starbucks 😉 Then on to grandfather’s house. The plan is that we will be moving down here shortly, so I really ought to be spending some time working out what we’re going to do with the stuff that is still here. Instead I went for a lie down, and then we went out for tea at Tim’s brother’s. D and S are likely to feature more frequently I suspect in the blogworld, I shall have to ask them how they feel about their names being used.
Tea was lovely, and the children coped with yet another late night, given that there were flickering pictures to be had. Then back and bed, and Tim and I were nodding off so we retired not all that much later. I got a decent 10 hours sleep, and still feel slightly weary today, whereas Tim has had a couple of lie downs, and thinks he might have flu 🙁
Today we’ve mainly relaxed, along with the obvious bits of shouting at children. We walked into town and discovered that Small’s feet have finally grown – he’s had these shoes since last June I think. (We have had them checked several times, I hasten to add!) So he got new shoes, which are rather nice goretex things actually, and he was even more excited when he got them back home and discovered they had a toy in them! We also stopped in the bookshop, hoping for a bird guide for this weekend’s Big Garden Birdwatch but instead left with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Book 1) for Small (he’s taken it to bed with him, and Tim has just gone to try to pry it out of his hands) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
for Big although she needs to wait until we’ve finished listening to Book 2. Then we sauntered back up and dived into the hippy shop, where we picked up Bill Oddie’s Birding Pack
and 150 Great Science Experiments
(which is in the style of 120 Great History Projects
and looks just as good) and finally back to the house.
I went out again in the afternoon and retrieved further flickering picture resources – the children have watched Nanny McPhee though it would appear from the rumblings from the bedroom that they didn’t take the morals to heart, and we’ve The Spiderwick Chronicles
in reserve for tomorrow.
Now to make pasta for us, and then another early night. I really do need to increase my fitness levels – we’re considering exploring the local leisure centre and library tomorrow, as both are open all day, which should be a bit of a sweetener for Small who doesn’t want to move here, he wants to move back to old house.
