heard it on the radio

‘Super-size’ secondary schools should be broken up into smaller units, says a report from a charity that fast-tracks graduates into teaching.

Hurrah! A sensible suggestion about ridiculously large schools.

Tried to bypass the nasty bit of the M1 this morning, and just ended up queueing in a different place for 15 minutes. This was after sleeping through 15 minutes of the alarm going off (which in turn was after going to bed at a reasonable time instead of playing scrabulous all night!) which always sets me up nicely for the day. Give the kids the credit, they got themselves organised in double quick time and we left the house by 7.25. Didn’t make any difference overall – still only got them to school by 8.50 🙁

The trip was livened up slightly by hearing mention of a Kris W and her five year old daughter on the radio mind 😀

Usual sort of day at work – sandwich guy seems to have taken a shine to me, so lunch is getting cheaper by the day. Made it to school on the dot of six to find Small with a plaster on his finger, drawing a picture. Apparently he’d peeled a carrot and a potato, and then his finger? Big presented me with a couple of lovely pics as well, she seemed to have had a good day. Spent some time chatting with A about the whole montessori thing, and finally home by about 7.30, to eat curry and watch NCIS We do like that. And now I think I’ll try for another early night in the hope that I might hear the alarm in the morning.

  1. Just curious, how big are the bigger schools over there? In higher population areas here they can be as big as a few thousand students. WE found a study somewhere a few years ago that said that schools should be a maximum of 400 students.

  2. I think most are from 500 – 1000, some up around 2000.
