Yesterday…

was a day filled with ppl!

We went to the Shirebrook meeting at the nature reserve. We were a few minutes late, but it didn’t matter – there were six tables of activities, recycling various stuff into animal homes for the winter. And we got to bring a worksheet home so we can try the bits we missed here. But the main attraction for Big was that Barbara was there, and that meant so was E (and B and R) but she isn’t overly impressed by them 😉 So the two girls legged it together to do papier mache nest building and I took R and watched Small as he kept trying to escape.

A few minutes later Kirsty arrived, and an hour or so after that Sal made it too. By this time it was lunch time, and Small had pretty much had enough. He’s got a streaming cold atm, so I didn’t want to have him out in the wind for too long. Kirsty was making home ward noises too, so I invited her back to ours instead 😉 Once we got home I rang Barbara and invited her to come over and bring Sal with her, so shortly afterward we had a house full!

Big and Lani were both doing shy by this point, and I thought that was rather understandable, what with 5 adults, 6 children, a toddler and 2 babies all in my not over sized living room. So I told Big to take E upstairs to play for a bit, while Lani had a little while to acclimatise, and then I took her up to join in the game. And at this moment I discovered how very grown up my little girl can be. She was wearing her Cinderella dress, which is pink with a full skirt. Lani wanted to wear a pink dress too, but Big doesn’t have another pink dress. The green one wouldn’t do, neither would the black one. So without any further ado, Big said “I’ll swap” and sat down and proceeded to do just that. I was flabbergasted, and incredibly proud, and told her so, before going back downstairs feeling slightly shell shocked.

So we had a pleasant afternoon drinking tea and chatting, and by the time everyone had gone it was tea time. The situation deteriorated rather over baths, reducing me to slight hysteria and sitting sulking in a corner, but overall it was a good day. I even got some work done last night, which did mean I was very late to bed, but at least I felt good about it.

  4. Yes, Big is very aptly named, I thought … when she did the ‘big’ thing and swapped dresses! (Heh, what would happen if you guys have another? You’d have Big, Small and ? Our kids are known at home (by dh) as ‘Big Dude’, ‘Little Dude’ and now ‘Tiny Dude’.) Very envious of the kids in bed thing! Dh is walking Freya (‘Tiny Dude’) round the kitchen in circles.
    Thanks again for the hospitality.
