What to do with excess books.

I know, the concept of excess books is a laughable one in its own right. But we’ve been receiving a lot of books recently to review as part of our 100 books fundraising challenge, and I’ve been a bit lost as to what to do with them once they’ve had their review read.

But I think I’ve got an idea now. I read over at Playing by the Book about a call for books for families in Christchurch, NZ. Some of these families may be home schoolers, many will not be. All will be desperately in need of all sorts of help that I can’t offer, but what I can do is send them books. So I’m sorting out the lightly read, beautiful review copies, and sending them on to new homes, hoping that knowing someone out there is thinking of them will help. Knowing that they are not alone, knowing that even as further disasters swamp the world, they are not forgotten.

I can’t do much to help the families in New Zealand or Japan, but what little I can do, I will do. I’ve sorted another bundle of outgrown clothes that I’ll take to the Red Cross tomorrow, and I’ve promoted SnapdragonJane’s sale of stock in aid of Shelterbox. I wish I could do more. But this is it right now.

I have a large collection of books which I used when taking my degree, in Education and English. I am now retired and really wish to find these books a good home. I am struggling to find an organisation who will take them, I wonder if you might know of a company/organisation you could recommend.
