Are you setting up a Christmas tree? Shopping online, or maybe, shock horror, out at the shops? Perhaps you are wrapping presents, maybe you’ve been or are going to church.
While you’re doing all of that, I’m getting up early, putting on my running gear, and driving to the next town, with a Santa suit beside me. I’m going to panic over finding somewhere to park and whether I can work out where I should be going, and then hopefully, I’m going to hook up with a lot of other foolsbrave souls dressed as Santa, and we’re all going to run 3 km to raise funds for East Anglian Children’s Hospices. I’m going to be doing a bit more hobbling than I’d planned, given my fall the other day, but it’s OK, I’ll make it.
I’m fortunate that we’ve never had cause to use a hospice, but I’m grateful they are there, just in case. And for the ppl who do have to use them, I can’t take away a moment of their pain, but perhaps I can do a little to ease the practicalities, by donating direct (I’m assuming some of the £10 registration fee for this run goes to the hospice fund) and by persuading other ppl to donate/ sponsor me.
Several of my friends and family have already stepped up and sent money. I’ve got a couple of other pledges too. But I’d love it, seriously love it, if I could get a few more ppl to donate as well. So please, if you can, donate, and if you can’t, could you share this post, mention it, RT it, stumble it, whatever, to see if I can raise that little bit more that might make all the difference to some family out there that you and I will never know who are going through something we don’t want to have to think about.
