well, halfway there

I washed the tent, although I haven’t put it down yet. Got my courgette planted out, and repotted tomatoes and aubergine (although something has already eaten my aubergine 🙁 any ideas anyone?). About to do tiny bit of paperwork, so I can say I got a little way into all of todays goals.

On the educational side, dd walked into the kitchen this morning and announced “I can count to 80” and did, not quite sure why, but I was very proud of her nevertheless. And Small sat on his potty himself – shame he was wearing a nappy full of * at the time! lol.

Not sure whether our home ed meet is on tomorrow, but hoping that I’ll get myself organised to go anyway – if it isn’t we’ll just keep going and pop out for the morning at least. Mean to get myself a little organised and plan an outing every week or two to somewhere – the city farm went down so well yesterday. Forgot to add that yesterday’s sliced knee was a very educational experience – driving home with still subdued little girl in the back seat asking questions like “why doesn’t all my blood fall out then? What makes it clot?” And we called in on a friend but couldn’t go in as her little boy has chickenpox “What makes ppl get ill?” Hm. Great questions, shame about the timing! Still, I was really pleased that she was asking, and I’ll try to follow them up another time when I’m not concentrating on rush hour traffic!

Ate some more of our potatoes for tea – they’ve been a real success with dd who didn’t eat potatoes except as waffles or chips previous to this. So that has been a real bonus. I’m hoping to get the beans and peas planted out tomorrow – depending on the weather. Then I’ve got to figure out how to keep the slugs off them. All but one of the sweetcorn plants appear to have died on me – difficult to tell as they are still there, but don’t seem to be growing at all. Just one is a darker green colour and a little bigger, so I’m not sure that that has been much of a success – will have to try harder next year. And I’m trying to work out whether slugs or bindweed are more irritating in the garden – votes in a comment box please!

  1. oh slugs – rotters ate all my lettuces once.
I like “Car-ed” – we have great conversations there!

  2. Slugs for sure. But hate bindweed too.
