I’d planned an early get away. I’d planned to pack the night before. What actually happened is that I fell asleep next to Small when taking him to bed, and didn’t wake up til 6.17am, still fully clothed, with no packing done. Ah well.
Accordingly, it was gone 11 by the time we left. A reasonable trip to Scarborough, and we arrived just after 1. I think I managed hello, before informing Joyce that my children hadn’t been fed (one of the many things I’d meant to do was pack sandwiches) but she was up for the challenge and within minutes we were in her rather cosy awning with sandwiches.
Big had been looking forward to seeing Hannah, and they departed for the playground in short order, meaning that Joyce and I could chat while Small played with cars. That laid the pattern for most of the afternoon – the girls playing and Small being entertained otherwise while Joyce and I talked. And talked. And talked. Rather fun actually.
Joyce had prepared a vegetarian bolognese in my honour, so we thoroughly enjoyed stopping for tea before heading off for York. The weather was filthy so the drive was horrid, especially the scenic trip through the centre of York (they don’t really do signposts to anywhere in York, apparently being in the city is enough 😉 ) The children wanted to stop up to wait for my friend Alison to get home from from her riding lesson, and after that, it was swiftly to bed.
