Virtual book group (for charity) – anyone up for it?

You may remember way back when that I started fundraising to build a library via Oxfam Unwrapped. I have some updates to give on that, but right now, I want to pop up a quick post asking if anyone would be interested in joining in with my next idea. I’d like to run a virtual book group, mainly aimed at those of us that can’t make the traditional variety due to childcare issues or work or location (or anything else really 😉 ). I’m hoping I can get some publisher support in supplying books, that we would then all read, discuss on twitter in a kind of twitter party with hashtag (maybe even getting the author involved if at all possible) and then hold a blog carnival of review posts.

Ideally I’d like a donation to the library fund to join the group, but obviously that isn’t mandatory. And I’ll have a blog badge (the children have been commissioned to make me one 😉 ) so that you can link up. I’m happy to use a linky for ppl to submit their reviews if ppl find that easier, although I’d compile that up into a carnival so that ppl would get the links back.

This seems to me to be an all round winner – publicity for publishers/ authors, links and traffic to member’s blogs and hopefully contributions to charity as well. I’d love it if you feel you’d like to join in. Any takers? I’m thinking that maybe each group should be limited to around 10 ppl so as not to put too much of a burden on any publisher, but I’m very happy to run more than one group if we have more than 10 volunteers!

Please let me know what you think either in the comments, via the contact form or on twitter.

  1. I think I would be up for that, assuming I can find my Twitter log in details! I’d have to leave it until after May though as I am a bit buried under OU stuff just now.
