Three o'clock in the morning

And it looks like it’s gonna be another sleepless night….

although it wasn’t Tim talking in his sleep this time (and when he does it tends to be about business meetings!), it was Small discovering that he can sign to me and get me to do things. So first he wanted a drink, then it was a nappy change (which was when I passed a clock and discovered it was 3.52, deep joy 🙁 ) then another drink. Then I got tired of the game, and told him he needed to lie down and get some sleep, although the damage had pretty much been done by then.

Which presumably is why I feel absolutely awful now. I’ve got a headache, doing the hot and cold thing, and my patience is at pretty much an all time low with the shrieking and screaming which is a part of our every day communication here.

Bleargh.

We got up and out by 10 o’clock which was some kind of miracle, and made it over to lidl to do the weeks shopping and because I wanted some cotton yarn from there. Still got some idea that I might make a shrug although I’ve not really found a pattern that takes my fancy.

From lidl onto Crystal Peaks where we called into the Works again. They are going to get to know me by name in there if I’m not careful! Picked up some history books as requested – cleared them out in fact! – will be dropping emails to ppl momentarily. Also grabbed a small bucket of word tiles, thinking that we might come at reading skills the other way around by making up sentences, and Small got a bucket of cheap bricks, more to give him something to carry and therefore stop him running off that because I wanted the bricks. Bargain of the day had to be card blanks though – they were selling single packs of 50 cards with envelopes for £7.99, but two packs for £9.99! Excellent stuff. Topped off the bag full of stuff with a cross stitch kit for Big, but that turns out to be a bit pathetic. Might have to try to dig out the binka I got from the scrapstore instead.

Big has just informed me that she has nothing to do. I’m a bit cross about this – she has got toys, books, a small brother to play with, there’s a computer in the dining room that she can use, she has a bedroom to play in, and instead she is sitting in here and making my headache considerably worse by moaning and muttering on. Hugely tempted to get a black bin liner and bag up a load of her stuff and see how she feels then!

Think I might go and beg for some time off for a lie down…. 🙁

  1. “Big has just informed me that she has nothing to do.”
Oh this sounds so familiar….Yet small person has the largest room in the house plus a summerhouse all of her own. She has 2 pc’s, a ps2, books galore and goodness what else. So how come she gets bored? I have no idea but basically it means she wants my attention (and usually when she knows she can’t have it).

Done that as well, on more than one occasion 😉 My mum always said that if we had too many toys etc to play with, we didn’t know what to do. So she used rotate our toys etc (dunno how often cos I never ever noticed!) and that way we were never bored.
Have a lie down for me will ya as I’ve had a heachache for 6 days now which is bordering on killing me 🙁

  2. aw, we have that ‘I have nothing to do’ thing here too. Or I’m bored, which is even worse. I’m sure I’ve said this before but my mother used to have this phrase “your boredom is an expression of your own inability to amuse yourself”, which I trot out regularly. It seems to baffle them for long enough that they shut up whinging for a bit at least.
    Hope you get a rest.

  3. Sarah I *love* that phrase of your mum’s 🙂 Must remember that one. Mine is: it is not my responsibility to amuse you.
    Sounds a bit tame now…….

Re. Shrugs, there’s a few free patterns on Knitty: http://knitty.com/ (look under archive on top menu) – knitted of course.
I saw some patterns for sale that were crocheted here: http://www.angelyarns.com/yarn/patterns-kits.php which just added to the ‘I really must learn to crochet’ feeling I’ve been having lately!

  5. Well, I got Kris started yesterday – we could get together and I could see if I can get you going?
Some gorgeous patterns on that angelyarns site, really drooling now. Will have a look at knitty – there are knit to crochet converters out there 😉

  6. For a moment I thought you were going to write that you were going to get a black bin liner and put Big in it, but perhaps you’re not feeling that desperate 😉

  7. Sleep deprivation is hideous. I am grumpy and miserable when I don’t get enough sleep – so I think I was both for about three years. (D says I wasn’t ALL the time…) But now they are both old enough to sleep all night and please themselves in the morning – it will come in the end!
Hope you get some more sleep soon. My best trick is to put on a programme or film they like and fall asleep bolt upright on the sofa – hoping they don’t notice.

  8. I fell asleep once standing up with my eyes open. It was a bizarre experience, especially when I was woken up by a cow breathing down the back of my neck.

Come over one day next week and we’ll decend on Nikki and do crochet whilst the kids run riot in her garden (It’s a tad safer than mine at the mo)
