The Magic Paperboat Treasurehunt

I don’t remember where or when we got this book. A long time ago anyway – it’s out of print, although available secondhand on Amazon (picture to left is affiliate link). Anyway, it’s not the most eloquent story, or the best illustrated picture book. But what it does have is instructions for you to join in with the story.

Mr and Mrs Turkey get sent a magic map by their son Jim. They do some folding, and make a series of things useful to them, starting with two boats.

We read the book last night. And this morning I sat at the kitchen table with Smallest and Tigerboy, and we did origami.

I was surprised how good Smallest was at folding. She’s very determined (not an uncommon characteristic in this family 😉 ) and quite dextrous, and she loved reading along with the book and making boats, boxes and a Chinese junk.

We’ve had a good summer this year. Big changes are afoot – I’ll be blogging that very soon – and I’ve spent lots of time exploring their interests with the little ones, and gathering resources so that we can take those interests further.

Tigerboy likes numbers. This morning shortly after he woke up, he was lying counting his fingers repeatedly 1 to 5. After a while he moved on to counting up to 10. And then he announced that there are two 5s in 10. That’s my boy. I feel some sweetie maths coming up in his very near future 😉

Smallest likes plants, shapes, books, drawing and order. Today she drew herself a list of things to do, and then very happily went through the day ticking things off. I’ve gathered a whole stack of books that I think she’s going to enjoy and I’m looking forward to getting started with it all.

It was a good home ed day. I will be using the #100daysofhomeed tag to share pics, maybe I’ll make it to a hundred days this time around 🙂
