well it did. Briefly. They painted, and that was good – again self led, self organised, and remarkably tidy. Small is getting the hang of using separate colours, and of using solid paint blocks.
Then Grandad popped in, and that was very good. We hadn’t seen him for a while, and I didn’t know that Small could say Grandad. I shouldn’t have been surprised – he made a very respectable stab at Grandfather and Grandmother the other night when looking at old piccies.
Then Grandad went, and it was teatime and it all deteriorated again. Small refused to eat anything, Big would only eat her pasta, not her broccoli, and then he belted her one with a cable tidy (a sort of long plastic tube). He’d been warned about not waving it around, but this time he wasn’t just waving it, it was intentional. So he left the room rapidly, while I tried to calm her down.
We put them in the bath, and moments later he belted her one over the head with a toy boat. He left the bath rapidly, and I took him into their bedroom. He was very cross about having been taken out of the bath, and just kept repeating “I not happy” which I’d kind of gathered. So I ended up cuddling him (mainly to stop him hitting me) and he fell asleep in my arms. Which was rather lovely in a way, but I wish we hadn’t got to it by quite that route.
And we’ve watched tv and burned out tea in the built in oven (the main reason we got the three in one in the first place!) and now I’m off to bed.
Maybe an early night and an early morning will mean I achieve a little more tomorrow.
