It’s been a pretty low key advent here so far, mainly due to my inability to stay upright and awake for an entire day at a time. But I’m going to try to chuck in a few more activities, to get the children in the mood hopefully without sending them into orbit.
(It’s a fine line to tread I find, excitement without explosion. If you’re in a similar situation, love to hear your tips.)
Tonight for #picturebookadvent (see more pics via the hashtag on twitter we’ve read The Jolly Christmas Postman (Amazon affiliate) but we didn’t play all the games, so I’ve brought it in the kitchen so that we can tomorrow. Also, Smallest wants to try to build a 3D scene like the card to the postman in the book, so that should be quite fun.
And then the other thing I have is the 30 Christmas Ornaments book from Maggy at Red Ted Art (check it out on Gumroad – affiliate). I’m looking forward to this – I’ve known Maggy for years, and followed her blogging career with awe, and I love what she does art and craft wise with children.
What I’m thinking of doing is printing out a page with a picture of each of the crafts on, and going through a picking out the ones we’ve got the stuff for (the book is brilliant, each printable page has a list of the materials you need up front and centre), cutting the pictures out and folding them up to pop in a jar. Then Smallest can pick out a surprise for us to do each day. Will obviously pop back and let you know how it’s going 🙂
(I’m also making a shopping list of bits I can pick up cheaply and easily so I can add a few crafts that I’d love to do – I’m thinking peg doll fairies would go down extremely well here. I’m also thinking that if we specialised in Christmas tree ornament crafts, we could make a load for each of my relatives to treasure…)
As tomorrow is soft play day, we probably won’t get as much done as I’d like, but hope we get to at least one craft, as I think it would make a little girl very happy.
Regarding affiliate links: this blog does not earn me very much money at all. In fact, most of the time I’m out of pocket – we get invited to events that I can’t turn down as the kids would love too much, and our travel isn’t always covered. We do get sent items to review from time to time, but they aren’t often edible 😉 As such, I do and will include affiliate links (and there are affiliate adverts in the side bar), but they are to products that I like and recommend. They are disclosed, although not always quite as clearly in archive posts, as the guidelines on disclosure have changed over and over through the years. I hope that’s OK with you all 🙂
