As some of you may know I am currently suffering (and that is the right word to describe what I am doing 🙁 ) from a slipped disc.
This means that I am spending rather a lot of time supine and sitting for extended periods is a real problem for me.
So what I have been looking for over the last couple of days is a table, platform, skyhook or other device which will enable me to use a laptop lying flat. Now Jax went to Meadowhell today and bought a lap tray from Argos. We were both a bit dubious about it and while I think it is going to prove handy to have, it is only useful if you sit with it on your lap.
What I want is to be able to use my laptop while I am lying absolutely flat.
It did strike me that some kind of clamp or stand attached to the perfectly usable table we have might be the answer.
What I need is either one or two syands with clamps which will hold the table between 12″ and 24″ off the ground and ideally can be adjusted so that the table top is angled at about 45o.
I was wondering if anyone might know of something, maybe used for photography, hifi, diy, musical instruments which would fit the bill?
All suggestions on the back of a postcard to……..

can you lie on your side Tim? if so what about an adjustable hospital trable. They go pretty low and some of them tilt too? just an idea!
I find laptop keyboards crap for long term use, so for that reason am even more enamoured with http://synergy2.sf.net which allows the use of a single keyboard and pointer device on one pc to control several boxes (i.e. networked KM (no V)).
The point here being that you separate where the keyboard and pointing device _have_ to be from where ever you need your laptop’s screen to be.
Of course if you laptop can do it, you could just plug an external kbd in anyway, but if you want to use more than one box at the same time, Synergy is the biz.
Caroline, no I can’t really lie on my side, certainly not in way which would allow me to work on a computer.
Jonathan, that is a very neat gadget. Reminded me of WinVNC.
How about a tapestry stand? You can get them in all sizes, for cross stitching and tapestry work – they can either be like an easel, or have an arm like an angle-poise lamp with the frame on the end. Thinking maybe a little constructive/imaginative work with some g-clamps/bungee cords/long tie-wraps might fasten said laptop onto the stand.
Just a thought!
