steadily improving

After a difficult day yesterday with frequent (loud) heights of emotion, Big seems to have reached a moment of decision. We talked a little last night about how she could deal with difficult moments, and then talked more today about it. And instead of screaming at me at any point, she told me when things where getting too tough or frustrating and walked away to calm down.

Which may seem like a tiny thing for me to be proud of, but I am inordinately proud of her for recognising the problem and taking that first step to solving it, and I told her so tonight 🙂

Small dealt well with disappointment and didn’t have a complete meltdown at teatime so maybe it’s rubbed off on him too 😉

I’d started out the day feeling a bit down and not really being able to pull myself together. This despite being up from 9 ish, which at least usually lets me be in control of the day. But somehow the morning got away from me, mainly disappearing in baby changes, feeds, weetabix, cheerleading sessions with Big and so on. Both the kids did some mathletics, and they also listened to some more Alex Rider (they are up to Ark Angel) now, and loving it) and Big and I had a go at tatting.

Later on I decided I needed to get out for a bit, not least as the baby was being very in need of physical contact, so I stuffed her in the wrap and we hung out the washing, then wandered into town in search of fruit and veg for tea. Nice walk and the rain held off although it was a very grey day, and by the time I got home the baby was asleep. Managed to decant her into the chair and she stayed asleep long enough for me to get to a keyboard and check my email for the first time in the day! Then relinquished the laptop to Big to do more mathletics while I had another go at tatting.

And cracked the flip 🙂

Well chuffed with myself.

It looks like this:

But the day wasn’t over. After that triumph I headed into the kitchen and whipped up dinner. While singing and dancing to try to entertain a very grumpy baby who was not at all happy about being in her chair, even with mango to eat!

Still, it all helps towards the 6000 step count for the day 😉

Big came and took her away after a (very long, possibly endless) while to allow me to finish the cauliflower cheese. And once the food was in the oven, I came and fed her (soa that is, not Big 😉 ) and let her sleep on my lap for a little while, until it was time to go and serve the food up.

The cauliflower cheese was good. soa really enjoyed some too, just mushed with a fork. And some fromage frais. And a strawberry. She’s really beginning to put away a respectable amount of food every now and then, and it’s affecting how much milk she takes and how often, messing with my body so that sometimes I’m a little engorged and every now and then I explode. All good fun, and I assume it will settle down over the next few weeks. Please.

But it’s all worth it. While I was carrying her around the kitchen, she signed milk to me for the first time. On her 7 month birthday 🙂 So impressed with my clever girl – when I said milk back to her I got the most enormous grin, so we rushed through and sat down and had milk 😀

All in all, a very good day.

Though I don’t recommend Cloverfield. It’s not a good film.

  1. We just gave Josiah the Anthony Horowitz CD set for his birthday. Anna remarked as she gave it to him that it wasn’t the full set – I can see us having to shell out a bit more afterwards to complete it!
.-= Sarah´s last blog ..Hansel and Gretel =-.

    1. Kids are already planning on further cds, but they’ll have to wait until they reach the bookppl, I’m not shelling out full price!
