small achievements

Big got called over to her swimming instructor on Tuesday evening and told she’s ready to move up – we haven’t had the phone call yet though, so maybe Adele is on holiday atm. If she does move up that will be 7 weeks in purple, and in to the last swimming lesson group. Coo.

soa continues to change almost visibly atm. Have bathed her several times this week as she’s got a sore patch on bottom due to new ability to do sneaky silent poos and then sit in them 🙁 However, as she is pretty much sitting up now anyway, bathing has got much easier. She really enjoyed swimming as well this week, as long as she was firmly held by either me or Big. And then today I popped her down on her playmat on the floor, turned around to pick something up, turned back and she was lying on her front!

She’s half rolled a couple of times before, but never made it fully over. Today was right the way, and she was quite happy about it. It was with her disposable nappy though, and she’s not going to be wearing those very often after one exploded on us while out and about today. One car seat cover for the wash then.

Today we were out for most of the day tent hunting. We currently have two tents – a Vango vista 600 and a vango venture. I loved our vango vista, but on its last outing it really didn’t cope with the rain. Not that many tents did, given it was the year of the floods of course, but it has dented my confidence in it. And the venture has a dodgy groundsheet and didn’t cope with the wind in yorkshire, although again, not many tents did. (Spotting a theme here?)

So yes, I want a new tent. We went up to Norwich Camping as they claimed to have a large display of tents, and even advised us to bring a packed lunch 😉 So we did, and they did, and it was good.

We saw a number of tents that we’d already looked at online, but I lost my heart to a new one. The outwell bearlake is just gorgeous. So expensive though! And I have no experience with polycotton or how stable it is in wind or anything. (I also adored the Indian lake, but don’t think the garden is big enough to air it.)

Realistically, we will probably end up going for an outwell montana 6

Oh, and I’ve remembered my own small achievement. Thanks to a blog friend, I’ve started doing yoga with this book: Learn Yoga in a Weekend. So far I’ve managed half of the warm up sequence twice  Have no idea how I’ve managed to get so old and stiff! Wail, don’t feel old and stiff inside, it’s only when I start moving around that lots of bits hurt. Anyway, I am saluting the sun on a morning when I can, and working towards a headstand. Think it may all take more than a weekend, but it’s some kind of progress, surely. Oh, and must have walked going on for five miles this week, given that we walked to and from the swimming pool twice and I’ve done errands into town as well as walking around acres of tents.

Oh, and we made it to our first English Heritage site of the year. St Olave’s priory is a lovely set of ruins, with an early example of something or other in the undercroft (hope it says what on one of the pictures I took as I can’t for the life of me remember). Small didn’t think they compared to Roche abbey, but I think he’ll come round in time 😉

Right, this baby is now annoying me by sleeping beautifully and building up her strength to keep me awake all night.

  1. We’ve got a Outwell Colorado 5 (they stopped doing them last year I think) & it’s great. We had a small leaking inceident due to poor placement of the footprint groundsheet on my part but other than that it’s great. Has stood up to high levels of rain & reasonable wind. Easy to put up & nice and tall so no crouching.

  2. wohoo to all the acheivements!
I thinki i would go for montana 6 with extension and then canopy. huge tent for all of you for summer weeks or rain!, small tent for weekenders that you can easily manage on own or with big

  3. I really like our Tigris 600. Might feel a bit weird getting basically the same tent again, lol, but it does seem like they’ve fixed the bits in it you had problems with.

  4. I never managed the headstand! but the warmup sequeance does get easier, promice!
If you’re ever looking at getting DVDs, I’ve found Yogazone to be the best and easiest, Yogalaties to be exahuasting but amazing at toning (and shifting any excess weight)

  5. We have the Outwell Montana 6 plus extension and carpet and love it! Does our family of 4 for a summer’s worth of soggy camping in great style and luxury. Good choice 😉

    1. we are severely tempted by it, do have to admit. How do you find its stability in winds?
