Slightly pathetic dragon

Small appears to have got himself a cold from somewhere – he had a very disturbed night, coming in with me for a couple of hours, which is unlike him these days, and then slept in til nearly 10am. He’s now sitting on the sofa, wrapped up in his dragon dressing gown, with a blanket, staring blankly at nickjr.

Big is attempting to decipher the instructions on a box of plasters, having scratched her foot and *needing* a plaster to stop the bleeding :rolls:

She’s also working her way through a very large pile of very large books about castles, while I try to figure out how to get two bmps on to the computer that although networked, doesn’t appear to know about any other computers that we have that are networked, that has the printer attached but doesn’t have a usb port so I can’t use the usb key. Doncha just love technology?

  1. aw poor Small, least he’s getting it out of his system before next weekend!
All our “networked” stuff won’t see each other (but they all see the internet box through which they are linked…..)

  2. I still haven’t worked out how to put the printer on the network. I send anything I want to print from the laptop to a webmail address, pick it up off the desktop, and print it from there. I know, I know….

  3. Hi, Jax. Thanks for your comment on my blog. I’ve bookmarked your site to visit after the kids are in bed tonight.
I love your Lactivist Store ad. There is a huge controversy going on at Live Journal right now over breastfeeding userpics.

  4. Joyce, that’s exactly what we have to do too.
There are times I hate computers. 🙁

  5. Hi Scrappity – yes, I know about the LJ thing, it was posted on thelactivist blog as well. Pathetic I thought. There are worse things to get worried about than a breast with a baby attached.

  6. We bought a new router, solved all our problems 🙂 The old one was *very* patchy. We use the xbox to watch downloaded stuff from a pc, and at least half the time they couldn’t see each other. And then our DS’s weren’t getting on to the network, so we ditched it and got one that works perfectly. Can’t remember what the old one was, a blue thing, this one is an apple-y-looking white Netgear thing.

  7. we have a netgear to support my vpn to work. All the computers can see that. None of them can see the printer, apart from teh one it’s wired to.

  8. PITA.
Btw, did you go and see that house yesterday?

  9. Yes I did. Nice house, shame about the (incredibly narrow and well parked on) road. Good feel to the whole place, but you have to drive on the pavement to get to the house and that just didn’t really appeal at all. 🙁

  10. Laughing about the plasters–my youngest daughter thinks they take away pain.

  11. Well, Jax, i feel ever so much better to know that even you are reduced to such japes to print something! I’ve always been embarrassed about that!

  12. 🙂 Joyce, I’m a programming techy, not a hardware or network techy 🙂

  13. We have the same problem with our network too and can only print from the pc attached to the printer and none of the pc’s/laptops can see each other. I knew it wasn’t my fault when my brother (IT whizz) couldn’t fitx it either despite spending two hours trying! Networks are evil things. Going to pay someone to come and fix it soon I think.

  14. We have a Netgear DG834G http://www.netgear.com/products/details/DG834G.php (white Appley-looking thing)
We had a Linksys WAG54G (like this
The Linksys was very good, but the Netgear is better in pretty much every respect.

  15. We have Netgear(same as you I think!) and it works like a dream. That’s all I know!

  16. it’s that Linksy’s one I’ve got. All three PC’s connect wirelessly to the internet really well, but they can’t see each other, the printer, the ds…..

  17. Yeah, ours was a Linksys. It was on Nintendo’s list of routers that don’t like DS’s. So that was our final impetus to chuck it! Get shot of it Joyce 🙂

  18. And I did actually come here to ask how Small’s feeling today?

  19. I wouldn’t dare, Alison, as Chris spent almost an entire day talking me through setting it up. I’d need a firm assurance he was up to doing it again before I even consider pulling the plug our 😉

  20. So you’re saying it’s all Chris’s fault? 😉

  21. Jax have you tried disabling all the firewalls whilst you try? I know we often have to do that to see other machines. Also I can’t see the machine that our printer is connected to but can see the printer. I can ask DH to talk me through it later if you haven’t got it fixed!

  22. We just got a linksys – the ds sees it fine, but the laptop doesn’t see the main printer anymore. And i can’t fix it. ARGH.
