shopping and tidying squares

My latest gimmick to get the children to tidy their bedroom came courtesy of the two filing cabinets Tim ordered for his new business. They had tough cardboard supports up the corners to prevent knocks in transit, and I’m using the supports to delineate squares on the floor that they’ve to tidy.

So far they’ve tidied 5 squares worth, which is probably around a third of the available floor and has resulted in a very much tidier looking room with minimal wailing. A definite result. Have remembered that they were supposed to do some this morning but after yet another appalling night courtesy of snuffly baby with cold I wasn’t up and thinking before they were up and playing so they didn’t get around to it.

Let’s see. I started this post on Saturday, so I suppose I’ve Saturday and Sunday to whip through before I actually get to today.

Saturday afternoon dragged myself out shopping with babe in wrap and trolley trundling behind. Slightly overdid it at both the fruiterers and the supermarket meaning that I arrived home somewhat shattered with heavy bag over shoulder as well as babe in wrap and trolley trundling (slowly) behind. Still, at least I’d had exercise and fresh air. Figure that may well have meant I did about 2 miles all told that day, including the hospital trip. (The little hospital in town. Takes about 10 minutes to walk to, so probably around a half mile away.)

I assume that means that I cooked something on Saturday night, but I can’t remember what it was. Ah baby brain. Or more accurately baby sleep deprivation brain. Baby has a cold. That means she doesn’t sleep well. Which means I don’t sleep well.

Sunday. Can’t remember Sunday at all. Seem to remember doing washing and running out in the rain to get washing in. Other than that, nope, not a thing. Sigh. Oh, except that the baby likes apple rings, but needs to be watched carefully as she has a tendency to shove food in very far and choke.

This morning we had a woman round who is considering home ed for her son. Hope she wasn’t too put off by my children practically sitting on me while I tried to talk to her. They did demonstrate autonomy in action, or at least, Small did by creating a planet on some website or other and going on and on about orbits, atmospheres and so on. Gotta love the boy.

And this afternoon they played on Sims. Then Big went off to her fun swim and I walked Small round to the local wood for a Beavers walk, walked home and fed the baby and walked back to pick him up again. 40 minutes walking. Got to be worth something hasn’t it?

My personal milestone of last week was that I’m now under 11 stone. And this week I’m still under 11 stone. I’m quite pleased. But I’ve a fair bit left to lose so I’ve just been looking at My Health Coach: Manage Your Weight (Includes An Exclusive Pedometer) (Nintendo DS). Wonder whether it might just give me that little oomph to keep lifting my activity level, or whether it would be just another gimmick that would sit in a cupboard in a week’s time.
