Saturday swimming and tantrums.

Took the children down to the swimming pool to meet new friend C for an hour’s swim – Small tantrummed the whole way down, so we were considerably later than I’d hoped 🙁 Pleasant swim, or more accurately, pleasant sit in shallow end as Small decided he wouldn’t use the zoodle and just bounce around without it, but staying in his depth. Meaning that I did too. Big and C had lovely time though, although C wouldn’t try the flume, which Big enjoys.

After the swimming, C’s mum told me that she’d got C booked into swimming lessons that start in a couple of weeks time, and I thought it would be nice if I could get Big into the same class. So I started to try to talk to the receptionist about it, and Big went into instant, loud, embarassing meltdown. 🙁 It wasn’t as if we hadn’t talked about lessons, we had, and she’d been quite positive about it then, but at the moment of reality she went right off the idea.

Eventually I withdrew from the leisure centre, and dragged them both back up the road home, with Big wailing and tantrumming the whole way. It was fab. Walking up the high street at lunch time on a busy saturday with a wailing screaming child who comes up to my shoulder threatening to hit me, trying to be left behind and so on. I enjoyed it so much.

By the time I got home, I didn’t really want to see either of them again for a while. But I had lots to do as we’d got Auntie S and Uncle D coming around for a birthday tea. We went for a cream tea approach in the end which was really nice and I actually made scones and chocolate cake. (Probably should have warned you all to sit down before I told you that 😉 )

Lovely afternoon/ evening, although I’d definitely overdone it by this point, as my back was really aching. Enjoyed the cream tea and company on a sunny evening, and the kids were very happy to have their cousin L join the gathering.
