so this will have to be edited highlights.
The weekend is the biggest highlight, with Helen and Kirsty’s birthday party. We didn’t even have a camera with us (it hasn’t reappeared from a box yet, and no, I don’t know what possessed me to pack it in a box in the first place) so I’ve no pictures to share, but it was a lovely time of shared friends and sunshine, even if I did find myself sitting quietly a lot of the time, concentrating on not being ill 🙁
On that topic, it seems very wrong, having longed to be pregnant for so long, to complain about any aspect of it. So I’ll try not to. But it’s difficult when I’m spending every waking hour completely and utterly nauseous, and then over the weekend, just to add an extra layer of fun, I got a back spasm, that came and went Saturday and Sunday, but on Monday set in for the day. There are no highlights for Monday – I just went back to bed.
Tuesday. That’s yesterday right? I went to meet my midwife. She’s wonderful, brisk, efficient, friendly, and very into homebirth, natural alternatives, and so on. I don’t know whether we will go for a homebirth this time, but it’s nice to know that the midwife will be on my side if I do. She is going to run my notes past a consultant, because of the miscarriages, but I suspect that given we’re past the timescale of them, it’s just going to be a case of waiting and seeing what happens next.
Another thing I learnt is that they’ve changed all the testing around – the Downs test, that used to happen at 20 weeks, now happens before 12 weeks, at least in this area. Came away not sure whether to go for this test (it’s another scan combined with a bloodtest for those not in the know) but having talked to Tim we are going to have it. So I need to call my midwife and get her to set it up.
In and amongst all of this, the children have been continuing to explore their Harry Potter obsession. Over the weekend, they finished the audio book of the Order of the Phoenix which meant that our relaxation on Sunday evening was watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
. I think the children very much enjoyed it – given that they’ve watched it three times since!
Other than that, they play Harry Potter, inside and out. They’ve memorised every charm, curse and spell in any of the films and some of the books (to the extent that we had quite an involved debate as to whether the wrong charm is used in one sequence in OotP – impedimenta is said, when obviously levicorpus results 😉 ) I have wondered whether I ought to try to introduce some latin on the back of all of this, or whether that would be stretching it a bit too thin.
This morning I heard them listing the subjects at Hogwarts, so I’m guessing at least one of them has been doing some writing. I wonder if I gave them quills and parchment whether it would increase the urge to write? I did hear that there’s at least one school that’s introduced quidditch as a team sport, now that sounds like it could be fun 😉
