Knowing that we’re just a bit behind (eek!) with our totals, I was quite pleased to see a pile of books on the table while waiting at the leisure centre during Big’s Rookie lifeguard on Thursday.
So there you’ve got Splash, Amazing Machines Terrific Trains
, Noddy and the Special Delivery Sound Book
and Winnie the Pooh’s Day Out
.
None of them books I would choose tbh. I don’t like the disneyfied Winnie the Pooh, or the CGIed Noddy – I prefer the originals of both. Thankfully the sounds from the Noddy book were long gone, so I didn’t have to rant about that either. But for whiling away an hour or so, they were fine. I’d have liked Splash better if the last bit of it rhymed – it felt like it was going to, but at least the pictures are bright and cheerful and somehow real – the baby has suitably chubby legs and bottom, mummy is curvy and definitely not willowy. And the cat is slightly soggy 😉
Pooh’s day out has slipped from my memory, I think it wasn’t a story book as much as a first words book. So a sentence about Pooh and a thing on one side, and then a picture of the chosen thing with just that word on the other. Now I think harder about it, I remember umbrella being one of the words, always seems an odd first word choice to me!
Terrific Trains I rather liked. Lots of different types of trains, in those cheerful but very 2D drawing style, with animal drivers who get to go on holiday at the end. A laudable aim.
And Noddy spends the day delivering his own birthday invitations while bemoaning the fact that no one has remembered his birthday. Sorry if I blew the story for you 😉
So that’s 4 more books towards our receding into the distance aim. Hold on tight, there are going to be *lots* of reviews written and linked to today and tomorrow.
Books 28, 29, 30 and 31 of 100.
