Much much better start to the day today. Big laid out her clothes last night, and this morning bounced out of bed smiling and happy and dressed herself in them. We left the house a good 25 minutes earlier than we have been doing, which meant we actually arrived at the A62 in time to sit in the traffic jam. :wall:
Ah well. I was still early to work, so leaving on time was pretty good going. It was raining a touch as I was leaving, or more accurately, absolutely bucketing down. I keep reading stories about a drought – would love to know how that is happening when I drove home slowly around the flooded roads. And even slower on the M1, where various ppl had got a little too close for comfort. The children slept all the way home, which was good, and as I’ve said elsewhere, we haven’t got the washing in yet 🙁
And I’ve been exploring the net a bit. Andrea had linked to her post at the whole mom and I explored on from there, finding a whole world of mommy bloggers, all with their own takes on life. The post about envy rang true with me (not that I can find it now) – would love to feel like I was making a mark online in the way I’m not really in the world, but hey, that’s no one’s fault but my own. And whinging about it won’t change the fact that I’m not living up to my potential 😉 (didn’t you hate that threatening phrase at school? Yup, me too).
So to cheer myself up I went off and read about solar cookers, and other technologies that don’t involve nuclear in their title. My gut reaction to nuclear is no thanks, but I’m still trying to work through the science behind it all to see if there’s a practical reason to say no. Appreciate any reasoned thoughts on the topic in the usual place.
And that was the pizza pinging, so instead of waffling on, I’ll go get food.

Chernobyl would be the only reason you’d need to say no, imnsho! I don’t give a monkeys how great the technology is these days, there will always be risks, and you don’t take chances with that stuff, full stop, end of story.
Plus the fact that it doesn’t give us a quick solution to our energy problems, will be ridiculously expensive and totally the wrong direction for the planet. Far better to give us all our own mini energy generation systems – wind turbines/solar panels/geothermal blah blah, scrap the duty on biodiesel, oh the possibilities are endless, but oh dear, they also mean we become less dependant on government & big business…
Obviously any opinion against is futile though, tony has decided it’s a goer so we shall get it whether we like it or not.
I was a bit shocked he decided it was the way to go. I definitely think that wind/solar energy are better alternatives for a start. I think though that this might be the end of the labour party in govt.
I guess it’ll take a while longer of all this rain to make up for the rainless months we’ve just had! Hope you have safe journeys though, heavy rain makes for grim driving conditions 🙁
