new family member?

He’s been sleeping on the compost bin for a while, but tonight he appears to have decided to move in. If he keeps the grotty cats from next door out, it’s a deal 🙂

And in other news, well, I already blogged the SALT phone call. Pulled up Something Special on the desktop and let both of them at it for a bit – Small was trying some new signs, so that was pretty good. He also let me know when he was about to do a poo today – wouldn’t do anything about it like sit on the toilet or the potty, but the recognition is a start. So I popped him in pants, and there was only one accident – and he went all the way into the downstairs toilet to have it. Strange child 😉

Can’t remember what we did this morning – I popped out for some blissful childfree shopping (Tim said he’d wondered if I was coming back 😉 ) at Tesco, spending clubcard and luncheon vouchers, which cut the bill rather. Ah, one thing comes back to me – Small asked for the magnetic letters down from the top of the shelves, and Big set to and started spelling things out. Got to love that autonomous learning!

Then this afternoon Sarah and Dino arrived just as we were sitting down to read Princesses are not quitters so I read that, and then we settled in with some basket making kits. Sarah is doing Stainsby festival this weekend in her professional capacity as Ethics Trading, so she’s taking a few baskets with her to see if she can flog them 😉

Broccoli and pasta for tea while Big flicked through a Jolly Phonics workbook, and Small imitated the sounds she was making. Hm, I see an opening here, a way for her to help, which might make the whole process of having to give him attention less painful for her. After tea and bath, she decided she didn’t want her story book, she wanted to learn about castles, so I read her half of an ex library book on Knights and Castles, which obviously led to yet another discussion about god and heaven. I came across the books on creation stories and gods and goddesses while I was searching the dining room for something else earlier, so I think I’ll wheel those out tomorrow.

Right, we’re into a in depth discussion of moral absolutes and religion here, so I’ll sign off for the evening. Night all.

  1. We’ve one of those lodgers too, though I doubt he’ll ever actually move in. He’ll come into the conservatory sometimes, but won’t get near anyone. He adopted the family who lived here before us, and their attempts to take him with them when they moved were spectacularly unsuccessful – so we said we’d put some food out for him – not a big deal, since we have two cats who already live here.
Mind, it still doesn’t stop the cheeky cat from down the street from coming around – she’s been known to sneak indoors and eat our cats’ food (though not for a couple of weeks now, so maybe she’s got the hint, or maybe it’s that her kittens are weaning now so she doesn’t need the extra calories).

  2. Our cat seems to lodge at other peeps homes. She has been seen in our neighbours front window; my other niehgbour tells me that can she be regularly found sleeping on his leather sofa or dining chairs! However, she never seems to feed that often at other homes…….
The cat we had at home was adopted by us after the previous owners left. They had adopted him as a stray or rather he adopted them but wouldn’t move with them. He kept walking back at least 3 miles across some busy roads to come to our house. Eventually we agreed to keep him and he became a much loved family pet. My mum and I were devastated when he died.
