My shins hurt.

Today we went on another trip out, well, kind of two actually, as I took half the group this morning and half this afternoon. We went to a local-ish park that has a butterfly house and jungle experience, to tie in with raising butterflies in the classroom for the last month. (As a side note, rather fantastically all five of our caterpillars cocooned themselves, even the one who fell down in the middle of cocooning and finished lying on his side on the bottom of the jar, and then all five of them hatched including him who fell, and another whose cocoon got knocked down much later on. Very impressed.) The butterfly house and jungle experience wasn’t quite as large as I was hoping, and it was very hot – 39 degrees C this morning and 45 by the time we went this afternoon. So both times the trip round there was short and sweet and then we moved on to the rather excellent play area for some wonderful playing.

So how come my shins hurt? Well, one of those sprawly slides with lots of different routes up to it – climbing nets and scramble walls as well as steps and ramps – is to blame. I was carefully watching a small child at the top of the slide and not carefully paying attention to what was in front of me as I moved closer, and I walked smack into the low platform at the bottom of the scramble tunnel bit. It hurt rather a lot, and has continued to do so all day, but it wasn’t til I got home that I realised I have large lumps on both shins. I have applied copious amounts of arnica ointment but assume I will have blue shins tomorrow 🙁

Should colour coordinate nicely with a colleague who came off her new scooter last night and has interesting graze patterns down one leg as she wasn’t wearing her full protective gear at the time. Think she will do in future!

So that was our non typical monday. Actually, I’m not sure there is ever much of a typical day at school, which is one of the things that makes it rather more challenging. I’ll try to write up some of our activities some time.

Oh, and today we finally ordered my training course – we’ve been waiting for the no-longer-called-LEA-but-everyone-still-calls-them-that to come through with the training budget and they’ve been holding out, so we gave up on waiting and ordered my course. Given that we’ve already got the training materials, we’ve ordered assignment only and they should be here by the end of the week which is good as I want to get through those before september when I’m hoping to start OU. Think I’ll go up to the regional centre during our half term and actually see someone about credit transfer – I can get more if I don’t do a named degree, but for teaching reasons I really want a named degree, preferably something with maths in the title. (For personal petty reasons I’d love a full maths degree, but it makes sense to see if I can get through it quicker by putting some computing in there too, and then I can be a maths and IT teacher in the new world.)

So there you go. Quiet weekend and quietly hectic Monday. Now if I could just stop hacking up my lungs and sniffling madly, all would be reasonably well with the world.

ouch! glad you’re able to get out and about in the sunshine in your new job. Imagine being cooped up in an office all day long . . .

  3. You know you can use the credit for each course with OU more than once, right? So you could use the courses you do towards a maths/computing qualification, then do the remaining courses you need for a maths-only qualification and apply the credit from the previously-used courses to that too.
I’m much better at advising people wrt qualifications than I am at actually getting any myself…
