Mercenary morning

Took me ages to get going this morning, not assisted by big two kids coming and climbing into or onto bed with me and soa when they heard us moving. Conversation centred around their most recent mercenary motivation, which is apparently Moxie Girlz. No, I didn’t know what they were either.

But they both want them, so they are planning on going into business together. Small is drawing Doctor Who pics, and wants to write comic books, as it’s his lifetime wish to be a comic book designer. He’s hoping ppl will be interested in buying his stories. I think if he ever writes them down there’s a chance ppl will be 😉

Big is back on the trail of what to make and how to sell it. She only sold two of the little purses/ pouches that she made, which we marketed on etsy, and so she’s not sure about that as a marketing route. She considered the friendship bracelet/ keyring area again but I pointed out that lots of her friends already bought those and may not want more. So then she thought about framed embossed pictures or handmade cards which may have some mileage. She’d very much like feedback – what would you, or your children be prepared to buy? She does circle loom stuff, friendship bracelets/ keyrings/ scoobies, embossing, card making and could probably branch out into crochet or more advanced macrame. I have shops set up on folksy, etsy and misi just waiting for her stock, and would also appreciate feedback on which shop environment ppl prefer as well.

After much discussion of products we eventually drifted into the living room and much computing went on. Big did yet more mathletics, while Small used google sites to start writing himself a website. As you do. It was covered in maths questions, which amused me greatly.

Big popped to the library to return their little used ds games (warned them at the time that I thought £3 a go was steep, but I guess it was a lesson they needed to learn for themselves) and she chopped up several more election leaflets for her lapbook.

Quite an industrious day really, and finished up with a late tea after her first full swimming club session 🙂

  1. how much money is she needing to generate? Could she earn some by “bob a job” type stuff with neighbours/local family? Does she have books etc that she no longer wants/needs that she could car-boot? Just thinking of options that would generate a “quick buck” in case the crafty bits don’t take off – I suspect it’s the sort of stuff that sells seasonally when people are looking for a little gift for specific celebrations (but in the mean time could she be stock piling stocking fillers ready for a Christmas fair?)
Thinking of what seemed to sell at the Christmas fair last time I was at one, little I-cord teddies as badges went down well (and they would sell well at a car-boot too at any time of year I’d bet), as did simple but sturdy tree decs – mini knitted stockings, cross stitched festive stuff in little frames adn the likes, those tinsel pipecleaner and facetted bead tree decs could be a good seller assuming there is profit to be had in them and you could transport them without them crushing?

  2. Some good ideas there, thanks.
    Teddies like this?

  3. yep, *exactly* like those! You can do them on a French knitting bobin if you don’t fancy doing Icord, just so long as you take into account how long the bobin is when you are measuring how long the bits are!
