Well, the day dawned somewhat grey and overcast. We’d hoped to make it to a local Highland Fling, but it really didn’t look the weather for picnics. So quick revision of plans, and we were due to head over to Barbara‘s and meet up with Jan and Jonathan as well. We were kind of late leaving – popped up to change ds nappy and ended up having to shower him – I’ll leave the details to your collective imagination. Meant I also wanted to get some washing on…
So, over to Barbara’s and an extended leisurely lunch – discovered that both my children like tuna mayonnaise – will dd never stop surprising me? I doubt it! The children love playing together – and there didn’t appear to be any fallouts at all, will wonders never cease? meant that we adults got to chat for a while, which was good too.
About 3 o clock it became apparent that the weather forecast was horribly wrong, and that it was in fact a glorious day. So we loaded up and went out to the local park – just slightly too far to walk, well certainly for Barbara with her bump 😉 and for the littlest of our offspring. It’s a really excellent park, with a great wooden assault course. Dd decided to tackle it, apart from the scramble net and parallel bars, and for the first time ever, I heard “I *can* do it” from her. It was fantastic to see – and I’m not exaggerating to say that I had tears in my eyes at various points of the proceedings. I was so proud of her. It was great to see the smile of achievement when she finished – and I didn’t get a picture, I was too busy going over to give her a hug. She did get cross at various points of the process, but mostly she used that anger to help her with the more difficult parts – the concentration and, let’s face it, abolute stubborness that she gets in double part from her parents finally stood her in good stead.
I’m really hoping that that was as good an experience for her as it seemed to be – maybe it will give her some confidence in herself and her own abilities – she is severely lacking and I really don’t know why. Can’t help feeling that it’s got a lot to do with nursery, where everything was broken down into safe chunks, and she was never challenged, and never able to challenge herself.
And maybe I’m reading too much into it, and it was just a great day with friends in the sun 😉
Anyway, we got home ever so late, and it was tea, bath and bed for dd. Ds is *still* bumbling around the floor, but he is beginning to look a little tired. Cross your fingers for me!
