Lord Lucas on EO's committee suggestion and home education legislation.

Lord Lucas has been speaking up in the House of Lords about home education again. He implies that the results of any review by Badman could be tagged on to the end of legislation already on its way through parliament, at which point we would not get the full consultation that I think we’ve been banking on.

Read about it yourself here and be prepared with your MPs address – I’ve a feeling we are going to have some rapid campaigning to do very soon 🙁

ETA I read further and found this:

Baroness Morgan of Drefelin (Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Department for Children, Schools and Families; Labour)

(yes, that’ll be the one with the abuse insinuations then).

The noble Lord, Lord Lucas, asked about home education. I should make it clear to the noble Lord that there is no intention whatever to introduce new clauses into this Bill in relation to home education. Many Peers have commented that there is plenty in the Bill already and it would not necessarily be a good thing to attempt to put more into it. I can give the noble Lord that reassurance now; I hope it is what he is looking for.

If you want to read more about EO’s quango suggestion, Gill posted on it a little while back – please, if you are an EO member do something to let the leadership know that you are not happy to be represented without being consulted. Do these ppl think they are labour party politicians?

There is also a poll over on home education biz forums about cooperation with an EO quango, would you or wouldn’t you?

  1. Hi Jax,
thanks for posting that link – interesting reading. I used to work in a law library and it was very depressing searching through all the Hansard volumes – so much nicer to be handed it on a plate!
Also nice to read about an ally – there doesn’t seem to be too many of those in official circles.
Hope you and your family are doing well. I’m Clare from somethingrichandstrange.blogspot.com btw, if you were wondering! 🙂
