I can’t throw back all the starfish, but I can make a difference to this one.
Such good advice, thank you Merry and commenter.
This coffee came from home, instead of being bought at the leisure centre cafe. It would have cost me £1.80. With the matched funding announced today, donated here to the West Africa appeal it will be worth £3.60.
Not much you’d think, but in Niger, Fatima B works for another family doing domestic work, collecting water, cleaning. She is paid £3 a month. That cup of coffee is starting to look rather extravagant, isn’t it?
3 cups of coffee, and we’ve passed the ten pound mark. £10 pays for life saving treatment for a malnourished child for a month. I can give up three cups of coffee a month. That’s pretty much all of my treats for sitting in the leisure centre while Big is swimming, but it will be worth it.
If you’re still wondering what it’s all about, you can watch Sian’s interview on CNN this morning. And if you’d like to donate, do it through the matched funding link, please. And if you can’t donate, and I do know what that feels like too, spread the word. #ShareNiger
