Let's see, yesterday…

Got up all ready to get organised to do library things and take Big over to Barbara’s for an overnight stay. Actually read a couple of library books, so that we could take them back to do rollercoaster things with them – see it does work to encourage reading!

Turned out that the two picked were very number based, so I think we can tick Maths too – Alfie’s Numbers (gotta love Shirley Hughes illustrations) and Fred and Ted’s Treasure Hunt. Then Big wrote the titles on her card, with a little assistance, we had a quick lunch and went off to the library.

At the library they asked her to colour in a rollercoaster car to go on the wall, so that went down well. We chose some more books – Small is actually getting interested in books now, rather than just in destroying them, which is an improvement – and with amazing strength of mind, walked past the books for sale, and went to Barbara’s.

Turned out she hadn’t gone for crumble this week, instead we fed the children fish fingers and ordered take out for the adults later. I stopped to watch a film, and we took it in turns to go upstairs and ask the girls to be quiet. Didn’t work – apparently they were still awake when Barbara and Chris went up, and then up again at 6 o’clock this morning. That would probably explain, though not excuse Big’s atrocious behaviour when I went to pick her up today – she was shattered.

To prove this, she fell asleep in the car before I’d got out of Barbara’s street, and has spent the rest of the day vegging in front of the Discovery channel (so far we’ve had programmes on elephants, tigers, spiders and orangutans – good stuff you know 😉 ) with a brief foray into geography when she tripped over an atlast (no, I don’t know what it was doing on the floor) and wanted me to show her where we live.

She’s having an early night tonight. She doesn’t know it yet, but she is….

Small by contrast, is being adorable. I particularly enjoyed him helping me to hang the washing out. No, I mean it – he stood by the basket and reached in and passed me every item one by one. And as he’s so much nearer to the basket than I am, it did actually speed the process up – got to be a first for being assisted by a toddler!

  1. And were you the person defending the gorgeous Antonio in the review, Jax?;-) And your comments box is still hopping about, which is probably just about as wearing as my endless “posted by…..” 🙂 I often want to leave you long comments, and can’t face them – aha – so maybe that is the reason why it has this little idioscynra (whatever, can’t see it, can’t spell it :-))

  2. Eh? My comments box is hopping about? What browser are you using Joyce – I tested it in Mozilla and IE6 and it worked fine in both. Will sort it pronto – can’t bear to miss long comments, especially from your good self!
    Yup, that’s me…

  3. I thought I tested it, yes I did, how come it’s working here?

  4. Its so great when a lovely relationship with one of your kids just jumps up and hits you in the face. I had a really great moment with Ammi today and just thought “awww… i am SO glad i have her like this now!” – lovely.

  5. I thought it was fixed here – using IE as ever (old habits die hard). Yep, it seems fixed to me!
You must stop talking about the Discovery channel, or I’m going to have to succumb … and I so agree about Antonio Banderas! Oh, *and* Shirley Hughes! If ever the kids pick any SH illustrated books I’ll happily read them – I like Mick Inkpen too – Albert LeBlanc being my absolute fave atm …
Anyway, I digress. I do think it’s very hard for little girls to do sleepovers and actually sleep … at least it was only one night to recover from. Hope she’s better tomorrow 🙂

  6. But the benefit of two nights is the second night they do actually fall over and go to sleep!!!

  7. Turns out it was actually Animal Planet today – very enjoyable it would appear. 😉

  8. Hi Jax
Spoke to Barbara earlier and Beth was equally tired and asleep on the sofa this afternoon! Sounds like they had fun ;0)

  9. Also sounds like you are feeling better? Hope so.

  10. Ha haa – but unfortunately the sleep on the sofa lasted all of about 5 minutes because Ben jumped on her. Still all three had a *very* early night. And bar humbug to that film review. I *LOVE* Evita. (And Antonio is just the icing on the cake.)
PS – comments seem to be working fine for me now.
