Kiddycarseats – Phoenixfix pro.

Actually, I’m going to start with a caveat, after seeing a discussion of car seat reviews somewhere around that featured Sian from Geek is New Chic. She made the very cogent point that parents should not be relying on other inexpert parents for safety advice around carseats and with this in mind, car seat reviews should not be used as a bottom line for buying. Please look to a properly researched resource for the safety tests on various seats when you are thinking about such an important purchase.

With that in mind, we were sent the Kiddy car seat Phoenixfix pro some time ago for review (certainly before I saw that discussion, or I might have thought twice about it!) It’s a stage 1 seat, suitable from age 18 months up to 4 years old. It has an insert for smaller children to raise them in the seat, and is adjustable at the back. There are deep wings to support and protect the head, and the seat fits into the car with the isofix system. That was a challenge when I decided I would fit it the evening we were going away, as there are extra little brackets you have to squidge between the seat base and back to fit around the isofix bars in the car, and I’d fit one then go to fit the second and the first would pop out…what was needed was dp with his stronger hands, or possibly me in a less stressed mood.

Once fitted, the seat is incredibly easy to secure. Instead of the seat belt going directly across the child, or there being a five point harness, there’s a kind of shelf belt insert which goes across the body and then the seat belt fastens across that. I thought it looked kind of bulky, but Smallest seems to find it very comfortable, rests her arms on the top of it and goes to sleep, but is held in position, not slumping half out of the seat as often happened with her old seat. For ease of fit and use, I have to rate this seat pretty highly, although like I said at the top, you should do your own research on comparative safety and which seats fit in your car.
