This was sent to us free of charge by Oxford University Press for our 100 books challenge.
A lovely picture book, I think this will resonate on a deeper level with parents as the story revolves around Daddy Bear recalling the day Baby Bear was born in an effort to chase away a scary image that is threatening Baby Bear’s peaceful night’s sleep. It’s the sort of thing that I can imagine slightly older children following up with questions about the day of their own birth, so if for any reason that’s something you don’t want to discuss, you might want to stay away from this one. Or read it to a very small, who can’t ask questions, like I’m doing. If you’ve no emotional buttons to press there, it could lead to some lovely family remembrances.
