Just a normal day

I’m glad I spent it with you…

National Schools Film Week. We had a showing of Toy Story 3 to go to. At 10 am in the next town, which meant that I didn’t run this morning, and did do shouting, trying to get children dressed and ready to leave the house in time.

Just a normal day.

In the car on the way there we practised 3 times tables. That’s not standard behaviour for us, but it’s becoming apparent that not having maths facts at her fingertips is slowing down Big’s progress in acquiring new concepts. So I thought we’d start in easy with 10 minutes of practice on tables as and when we’ve time and see if we can build up that knowledge without too much stress.

Then we had to stop practising because I was busy getting very confused about how to get into the retail park. I was so pleased that I’d got 10 minutes leeway, as I used it all up getting into the carpark. Still had time for a quick toilet stop before we got seats though.

There was a short before the film, don’t know whether it will be on the DVD but rather hope it will as it was wonderful. Called Day and Night, a cartoon about two odd opposite monsters, one with day inside, and one with night. Small loved it.

I didn’t get to watch all of the full feature, as I spent quite a lot of time letting smallest crawl up and down the corridors outside the screen. She was happy, the kids were happy, and I got to chat with a TA who was taking shifts bringing distraught children out for a break. Headsup for those parenting sensitive offspring, there are elements of Toy Story 3 that are quite scary or upsetting. Certainly for younger children. Remembering how Big reacted to Little Polar Bear she’d have been one of them a few years ago!

Home in time for a spot of maths before lunch, courtsey of mathletics. Big and I had a miscommunication as I was trying to assist her in one of the tests while wranging an unhappy baby, and I failed to explain averages well. Which lead to tears as you might expect. 🙁 But we got it sorted out and she redid the test and got 100%. She is really beginning to nail this now, and she is working very hard at it. I’m very proud of her.

And then the afternoon. When I think they mainly played, and I wrote blogposts and stuff, and dealt with the baby and failed to tidy up and so on.

Evening and we ate dinner together, although for the life of me now I can’t remember what it was. I daresay there will have been some shouting, some hugging, some chatting and maybe even some learning throughout the course of the day, and before bed there was even a little reading time.

So there you go. Just a normal day.

I’m glad you spent it with us 🙂

I feel your pain about parking… I still end up driving round the loop three times then entering through the “buses only” entrance in despair.
Sometimes I think that retail park exists in another dimension.

    1. @Chris didn’t think it could be just me. Weird place. Began to think it had some kind of repelling forcefield!

  5. cinema car parks are a law unto themselves…
We loved Night and Day, Aprilia loved Toy Story but blubbed several times, I thought it was okay but not the best film I’ve seen.
