It's nice to have a hobby.

So far tonight I have ranted on feminist parents and ukparents, written to Vango complaining about my tent leaking, and informed Get Training (suppliers of my online training course for java) that I want my money back.

I enjoyed that. 🙂 Oh, and I applied for some jobs. That’s not nearly so satisfying somehow.

Pleasant end to a difficult day – not quite sure what is going on with Big but her behaviour has been a touch variable today. She started off by being horrid and then redeemed herself this afternoon at home ed group (which went really well – nice to finally meet Rach 🙂 and for a theme thrown together at 11 pm yesterday, I thought colours went really well! Jayne brought a book (what was that Jayne?) and some lovely fruit, and I’ve got a picture of a table full of children just doing stuff without an adult in sight. Result!

Then we got home and the behaviour went to pot again. Basically I ask her to do something (can’t think what the request was this evening, think it was something like “could you grab such and such for me” and the response was “if you ask me to do that, I’ll throw my shoes.” And then she did. 🙁 ) So Big spent a lot of her evening in her room – I really don’t see why I should put up with being spoken to in that manner.

And then I’ve spent the evening complaining, and now I’m looking for crochet hat patterns, rather than doing any of the multitude of things I *should* be doing.

Tomorrow is another day. If it doesn’t rain I might be able to get the tent down!

  1. Myf had a small meltdown once home – maybe too much crammed into one day? But they were all so good in Costa. And group was fab – well planned too! 😉

  2. nothing like a good old winge at times 🙂
Even got the wingeing pom label to work for me the other night – I complained about the miniscule amounts of beer that were handed out for sampling, got accused of being a wingeing pom, I smiled and accepted it and then he promptly filled my glass properly. Shame the beer tasted so bland though. Didnt half make me homesick for real beer!

  3. Are you not from the uk then? Although ikwym about ukparents. ;-). More like ’15yo-ukunparents’ unfortunately :-(. I’m intrigued about your ‘feminist rant’. What did you say? Go on, do tell.

  4. Ooh yes, what were you ranting about (in both places).
And isn’t that just typical – the *first* time I’ve ever missed group and I miss out on meeting Rach. Ah well – she’d better come back next time 😉 Rach, are you listening? 😉
And as for behaviour, we’re dealing with that too. Could it be Hesfes-related?

  5. Jax I still want a few crochet lessons at Kessingland – I’m determined to crack it one day LOL xx

  6. The rant on fp was about a report from the environmental agency that concludes, having spoken to 180 cloth nappy users, that cloth nappies are no better for the environment than disposables. *where* did they find ppl who soak nappies in something unpleasant, use disposable liners and throw them (complete with poo) into the bin, wash at 90 degrees, tumble dry and *iron*!!! their nappies???? Of course that pattern use would be bad…but it doesn’t match with anything anybody *I* know does. Mutter, rant, burble…
Rant on ukp was short and to the point – they are considering moving to using a phpbb (free) forum system, and looking like every other parenting site out there. Boring. And not actually any better in the long run than what they’ve got. Pathetic.
So not terribly interesting rants, but did me good 🙂

  7. The book was “Handa’s Surprise”

  8. How funny- I was sat in the library with my two yesterday reading ‘Handa’s Surprise’.
Sounds very much like post-HESFES boundary pushing, we had ours *at* HESFES 🙁
I enjoyed meeting you at HSEFES too, actually you were the only person I did manage to chat to for longer than ‘Hello’.
Thought Small was very delicious 🙂

  9. Had a dry tent, 2 dry groundsheets and a dry load of washing out in the garden by yesterday evening. Then left them there and now it’s all wet again. I am so crap sometimes!

  10. Tent wasn’t dry last night – certainly isn’t now 🙁
Third (or fourth, I’ve lost count) load of washing is still sitting in the machine, groundsheet is still in black bag. Yeuch. As is that picnic rug, and my shoes! Still, as I’d about worn a hole through the sole, perhaps it’s time for a new pair…once every five years or so is probably fair 🙂

  11. I’m really sorry to have missed the group yesterday – it sounds like it was lots of fun. Hope your tent dries out soon.

  12. C does exactly the same – everything is a threat atm – ‘if you don’t do X I’ll bite you/kick you/break something’
Gets a bit tedious after a while.

  13. Could it be a 4 ish year old thing? My just over 4 year old is being very similar, we especially get a lot of “hard stares” with hands on hips (which unfortunately for him I find completely comical 😉 and the same “if you make me do I’ll kick/hit/punch you” type threats. None of which are often carried out as he knows he’d be in real trouble but it does get rather wearing!

  14. Her threats do get carried out every once in a while, and having every conversation as a confrontation is indeed tedious.
We’ve had a quieter day in today, and it’s been better, although I did laugh at myself earlier when I was shouting “stop shouting at me!” Hohum. Can’t decide whether to risk going out to group or not tomorrow – they are doing spinning and drop spindles and things and it would probably be great fun…might see what kind of night we have first.

  15. I do the ‘STOP SHOUTING AT ME’ thing and even better ‘WILL EVERYBODY PLEASE STOP SHOUTING’ which Sim does a fab impression of 🙁

  16. LOL – I yelled ‘don’t you yell at me!’ at Myf today… then had to wander out to the greenhouse to compose myself. 😀
