inspiration

I said “we have a cabbage, an onion, some brussels sprouts and some very large potatoes. I don’t know whether that inspires you to anything.”

He said “yes. I’ve got some bacon in the fridge.”

Hohum.

  3. Soup!!
Or bubble and squeak. Can’t go wrong with bubble & squeak. 🙂 Nice with left over gravy and apple sauce.

  4. They watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this afternoon – make em cabbage soup!
“Nothing goes better with cabbage than cabbage Mr Bucket”

  5. We had omelettes. I had green beans, that I’d forgotten about, on the side, and he forgot about his bacon…the cabbage is still to be dealt with.

  6. Stir-fry the cabbage in butter with chopped onions….mmmmm!!!
I can make just about any vegetable unhealthy I think :o)

  7. You see thats what gets me about Ready-Steady-Cook. The punter comes along with their bag (cabbage, potato, onions, brussel sprouts) expecting the chef to make something of what they have and in fact she completely ignores it and pulls out something completely different from the store cupboard!
I’m with June – saute (fry gently) your onions. chop your cabbage very very fine (use a solid base!) and then put them on top of the onions, give a little stir and leave them until the leaves start to turn darker green and soft. Thats called wilting.
Then I’d mash the potatoes and make mounds out of them. For the meateaters, I make speckled potato by mixed it with chopped bacon. Then put the cabbage on plate wrapped around the potato mound so it looks like its a snowman on grass. If you like lots of sprouts you could put a few on the cabbage as “green snow balls”, otherwise stick one on the top as a head! Then the non meat eaters get a fried egg as a hat!
I had salad leaves and mushrooms last night. Where did I go wrong?

  8. Mmmmmm! Sounds absolutely YUMMY!
I also like the cabbage/onion mixture with long straight noodles. Loads of butter, straight to the thighs, but I’ll die happy and well-fed. 😀
