In a change to recent activities

Today I have two happy and lively small ppl 🙂

I had a bit of a lie-in this morning and came down to find the television off and a beach in the living room. (Cream blanket = sand, blue blanket = water 🙂 ) I was quite impressed by that. Then I got settled in to do some work, and they joined me at the table to do CBeebies playdough from the magazine I’d got Small last night. Big briefly considered doing more competition entries, but decided playdough was more enticing. 😉

Couple of spats during the day, think none of us are 100% at the moment. Bit of a chat about how the next week is going to shape up – Sarah is no longer looking after the kids, so I’ll be working from home a couple of days and Ailsa from Mill Cottage Montessori (plug, plug!) will be having them on Tues and Weds, albeit not for the full days that they do during term. Should be rather nice actually, they both adore Ailsa (which appears to be moderately mutual 🙂 ) and she’s said that if I leave car seats and so on they’ll probably go to the park, make lunch together and generally have a good time. Not sure she’ll get the paperwork done that she had planned for this week though.

All this means that we are yet again rethinking our approach to life, finances and so on – it looks increasingly like I will be the go otu to work breadwinner for a while, with Tim working from home around the school days. Will have to return to the vexing topic of flexi-schooling at some point. Also aware that I need to get a bit of a grip on how our provision is shaping up, could someone just wedge a couple extra hours in the day for me? Or maybe an extra day or two in the week?

Started writing this hours ago btw, but gave up and went for a snooze with Small, so now I’m rather dazed and confused.

Let’s see, there was a brief Dora interlude around lunchtime, then Tim watched the news and turned the tv back off again. The children went off to amuse themselves – Big dressed up and Small found the ‘puter again. Then she started trying to pick out tunes on the piano. Twinkle twinkle to be precise. She got as far as the right rhythm by herself and was thrilled. I was sitting on my hands not to get involved 😉

But a bit later she wanted to know the right notes. We have many of the music books that my sisters and I used as we grew up, so I pulled out Jibbidy F and A C E Childs First Piano Book which has a very nice version of Twinkle in it, and we worked through that together. She stuck at it for absolutely ages, probably well over an hour, until she was fluently playing it with both hands – I was incredibly impressed. Went and got Tim to listen too, he was rather impressed as well.

Then Small came and told me he was sad and cold. Turned out he was very much the opposite 🙁 So we sat and cuddled and read some books together and then I suggested we had a lie down, and that’s where I’ve been.

  2. We call those midday naps ‘power naps’. Most of the time, even a short one has amazing results.

  3. Cor at the piano, bugger at the sudden arrangement changes. Hope you get something sorted out. And hope Small on the way back up.
